| is she pregnant? the first week of november my female went into her first heat... i made sure to keep her away from my male but one day she climbed the gate and got to my male when i was picking up my daughter from school... she is showing signs of pregnancy and i was hoping it was just a false pregnancy but she has gained 9 oz and is just not acting as energetic as she used to and her stomach seem to be bloating out as if she may be pregnant... i have heard that the vet cant really tell if she is pregnant until the last week of pregnancy so i wasnt going to take her... or should i? i need help and who better than my yorkie talk breeders to ask for advise. my biggest concern is that she is only 10 1/2 months old and i already know thats not a good thing... what should i do and how can i tell if she really is pregnant?

| The vet can usually tell if they are pregnant after 45 days, that is when they can feel their skeletal bodies. They can make an educated guess prior to that, by seeing if their horns are full. You can also have x-rays done after day 50. Are her teets swoolen, does she have a bigger belly yet?

| there is a pregnancy calendar on Debbie Jensens site that if you put in the date you expected the tie it will give you a general idea on what to expect and during what week. http://www.debbiejensen.com/date.html you should be feeding her puppy food all through the pregnancy and nursing adding extra like cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken and rice the last week of pregnancy through nursing. hope this helps

| Try to pinpoint the day of tie, and keep your eye on her. Have the vet check her out in a few weeks, or sooner if you want. Don't give her vitamins that can cause her pups to be larger than they should. How much does your girl weigh? You might want to put together a whelp kit and set an area of whelping up for her. Yes it is sad for her to have pups so soon, but she has a good chance of doing just fine. You are not the only one that this has happened to.

| I would aslo add a trip to the vet is a safe bet. Let him take a look at her- can do an ultrasound to see if he thinks her pelvis is going to be large enough for the babies. Better to be safe rather then sorry |

| That is a low weight for a breeding female, even with a male that is small. When you do breed you want a male that is smaller than the female, and you want your female to be 5lbs. Yes some breed them smaller, but the risks are higher for the female. Definitly take her to the vet and see what they say. We are more than glad to help any way we can.

| To be safe, you want to assume she is pregnant and proceed with that. You will need to know how many puppies she will have, so it is necessary that you find a vet that knows a lot about tiny dogs. I think her small size is more of an issue than her age at this point. Upgrade her food and go back to puppy food.

| Yay!! That's good news! Do you plan on breeding her in the future or getting her spayed?

| i will be breeding her... i know, i know you all hate breeding tinys but she really isnt a tiny. at the vet she weighed 4lbs 7oz and is much larger than my male... she weighs less than she looks, must be a light bone mass... anyway, she will be having pups in the summer if i feel she is ready.
