I highly suggest you give him 1/2 goats milk and 1/2 baby rice cereal mixed with kayro syrup. At this point he needs something solid to hold to his ribs so to speak. I'd syringe feed him atleast 3 cc's every 3 to 4 hours. Once you see this helping him to get stronger then start adding in dry kibble that is made into a powder with a coffee bean grinder. It makes the dry kibble like instant coffee grounds and then add that to the baby rice cereal mixture. It will also help if you keep the liver mixture in this too, the liver will help him alot with the mixture I suggested. I would surely add them all together. I hope your little man improves!!

I also forgot to add give him a little bit of Pedialyte to help keep his electrolytes in balance. I'd give him atleast 2 to 4 cc's a day.

I just went through this with a pup!! He is now 21 weeks and doing well. I had to FORCE and I mean force feed this guy. I put the canned food in his mouth and held it closed with his head tipped up and with my other hand gently rubbed his neck. I fed him this way every 4 hours around the clock for 4 weeks, then every 6 hours for 3 weeks and finally to every 8 hours. It was a struggle and you actually feel awful for forcing them to eat but it has to be done. Unless of course the puppy is vomiting or otherwise sick.

How large is his head in comparison to his body?

My vet says that there is correlation with the smaller bodies and larger heads in percentile and them having crashing blood sugar wise. When their sugar is lower they do not want to eat. They get dehydrated and the vicious cycle begins and many lose these babies in the middle of the night/This evens out eventually if you can keep enough calories in them.
I mixed his AD with nutracal for the first 4 weeks. In the beginning he felt so crappy he just laid there. Within a week he started fighting me more and more. The next few weeks we fed just the AD forcefully still. He would back up and scream, pretend to swallow and spit it out. But he had spunk and was playing more and more. After that we then we tried wellness core canned (which he hated) I bought a can of every kind you could imagine just to get him to eat. He refused them all so eventually he ended eating the Instinct raw on his own with lots of encouragement. His body has finally caught up to his head size and he is eating the raw without any problems. I have never fed raw before but a breeder that has been breeding chihuahuas for over 20 years had me try that and she has had this problem quite a bit with her Chis.

When it all began I had a CMP done and liver panel and it showed high ALT and BUN and Creatine but he had not been eating well or drinking when I rushed him there that day. So after all these weeks I did have his bile acid test done before he just went to his new pet home and it came back within normal range.

His head is normal size for the rest of his body.He is just small all over!! And he does scream when I feed him. He screams when we try and do just about anything. But not always. With the exception of giving him water. He likes water, sometimes, cold water. And cold milk. And you're right, it hurts to hear him scream. You want to just quit doing whatever it is that is making him scream!! Even tho you know its helping him, you still want to just hold him and love him. He has not thrown up nor has he had diarehia. (Can't spell it). He seems to be best in the morning and throughout the day. The nightime is awful. But I think it's mainly because we keep waking him up to give him stuff!! He wants to SLEEP!!!! If I could find RAW food, I would. I just hate to feed him RAW people food. But if it would help him, heck I'd feed him anything.

Thank you for your imput and your suggesions. They mean a lot to me. All of you YTers!!!

The Kennel Shop and Petsmart both have it. Check online and they will tell you where there is a retailer nearby.
I would keep force feeding him though. Even a tiny tummy ache and these tinies stop eating. If you look at my avatar, Emma the tiny one is full grown at 1 pound 10 ounces. I had to do this exact thing with her. She was too small for a blood draw and the vet was doing the sub-q fluids. I just decided I would do what ever it took to keep her alive as long as she was not in pain. She has a cleft palate but it is way in the back in just the soft palate so she eats without difficulty. I force fed her until she was 5 or 6 months and she would get all cranky and scream each time I fed her. But it kept her going. I had been feeding her homemade food for a year now and she is still fussy. Sometimes it has to have cottage cheese, others I have to add Parmesan cheese. When I was doing the Instinct raw with Henry I tried it on her. She LOVES it! She has been eating that for a couple of months now and I just mix the medallions of each..Lamb, Chicken, Beef and she gets variety that way.
I wish you luck with your little guy. I will keep him in my prayers.

Wel folks, it breaks my heart to tell you this, but we lost him. He just kept getting worse. I took him to the vet and he said that there wasn't anything left to do. He was so bad it just broke our hearts to see him like he was. He couldn't walk, stand for any longer than about 5 seconds, and his head just kept rolling to the side. I appreciate all of everyone's good wishes, prayers and everything else. But the time had come to let him go. God wanted him for a reason. Smart guy, God is.

Thank all of you for your suggestions on feeding him and all.

I am so very sorry for your loss. You did all you could, but sometimes these fragile lives are only here to bless us with a moment or two or their time and love. Now he will rest painfree and easy over the Rainbow Bridge.

I am so sorry for your loss. You put your heart and soul into trying to help little Bug survive, and I know it hurts. His little heart and being will always touch your heart, and he will not be forgotten. It's tragic to lose one so young. I hope his mom and brothers and sisters thrive under your care and love. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am very happy for you and your 2yo. Congratulations!!! Mine was too small for the vet to do an IV anything. Couldn't find his veins.

I am so sorry to hear about the little baby but at least he is now out of his bad situation. Am so sad to hear what he had to go through. Hope the rest of the littler is flourishing.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard these times are. I tube fed Princess Gracie for two weeks, every two hours around the clock without missing 5 minute's and she survived beyond what the vet had predicted. It was emotionally draining and exhausting.. She is 6 years old now and I kept her. She is my little princess..
But you must tell yourself you did everything you could to help this baby. sending hugs..
