I have tried a few differnt things including cottage cheese. Another YT member told me how to make homemade chicken broth which i did and and put that on top of some ground up kibble. He really doesnt like soft canned food, but will pick at the chopped/ground up kibble. I was told not to hurry him....he is drinking water well, just picks at food. He is a fiesty, healthy little thing though! Sooo cute....yes, I am in love all over again!! |

All of mine hate cottage cheese lol |
Kendra, I just want to wish you good luck with the whelping. I know your heart is in the right place, and that you're trying to help. It makes me so sad to think of that breeder keeping her dogs in cages:cry: If I were you, I'd probably end up in jail, because I wouldn't be able to give those dogs back to that person! I do hope that you'll take all the great advice given here, particularly about protecting yourself with some kind of notarized document. If anything awful happens to the dam or the puppies, I don't think that this greeder will sit idly by. It doesn't sound like her ethics are very good, just my opinion, and I'd hate to see you being sued for trying to help. Any way you could report her to Animal Control? |
I command you for what I feel was the right decision to take this Yorkie who was clearly in a bad situation and take on the responsibility of her care. It may however been a little on the daring side. Seeing as how you are unexperienced in whelping. Do what ever it takes to get prepared and be prepared for anything the good and the bad. Have your vets numbers on hand and be ready to get her to the vet on a moments notice. It is very hard to keep up with all the the posts on this thread and try to prepare yourself for what is to come at the same time. There is a lot of reading to do in order to wean out the bad and get to the truly helpful comments. Members do seem to get off track when people come here asking for help. Sad buy very true... My suggestion to you would be for you to either contact one of the more experienced breeders here on YT though a PM and ask for there help. I'm not sure who that would be but you could always ask in a new thread. Or for you to seek out the help of the breeder as suggested or another experienced breeder in you area. Maybe even ask for a contact number# so that you could contact them directly if you need to. Good luck, I hope for a successful whelp with no complications and a healthy litter of puppies! |
I wouldn't give the puppies cottage cheese, it has milk in it, you can wet the kibble with goats milk, or baby rice and goats milk, or royal canine baby kibble they usually like it also. |

Just a suggestion Kendra.... why don't you just keep Mac's mommy instead of taking a pup from this other litter? Then you will have a female for your daughter, Mac's mommy will be spayed and stop any other blue pups from being born, and she won't have to go back to the BYB after spending so much time enjoying life in your home. You will be making a BIG difference in her life and truly saving a sweet yorkie. |
 agree this would truly make a difference in a dogs life Quote:
