| Need Advice In everything I have read it says that the puppies should stay with the Mom until they are 12 weeks. I have a person trying to tell me that they can leave at 8. I think I am right about this but I just want opinions. Hopefully I can get her to read your replies and she will understand that the puppies need to be with the Mom till 12 weeks.

| It is better for the puppy buyer and puppy if they get the pup at 12 weeks. They learn important socialization from mom and bite inhibition.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I agree with Chachi, and YTCA recommends a minimum of 12 weeks, a smaller dog less than 2 pounds, may even need longer with mommy. Ladymom posted this link that tells about Maltese, another toy breed, and it explains why toy breeds need a longer time with mama. Remember state law is for all breeds, it doesn't take into consideration the special needs of the toy breeds. Why do Maltese puppies need to be 12 weeks old before going to a new home??

| A bad breeder is going to try to push them out early (to get the money and be done with them). A good breeder will hang on to them longer because it's about what is best for the dog and not just about the money. That being said people have gotten their dogs at 8 weeks and they are perfectly happy great dogs.

| Whether she believes u or not, you know your right and that's all that really matters... But I still think Everyone should read YT anyways- the abundance of knowledge is pretty awesome! I also agree that the vast majority of the time (apart from Exeptional circumstances) 8 weeks is way too young... They're still little babies!
