Lizzy is 5.6 lbs.....no we don't have a vet on call ...we were told she was experiencing a false pregnancy.....not expecting to have pups at all......nice suprise but now the work has just begun

Did you mean to say her last was at 7:50am? If she continues to pant and pant for too long I would take her to the Emergency Vet and have her checked out. Today is Sunday and I am sure your reg. vet is not opened.
Do you have the puppies warm...heated pad underneath? Has your little momma tried to drink any water yet? If you have to, bring the bowl to her and she if she wants to drink. My Elsa had her first litter in Nov and I was more nervous wreck after they were born than during delivery. I kept my cool on that part(don't know how, but I did). Keep posting...

you can PM me if youd like, my yorkie is about the same size and had trouble with the 1st pup she delivered 8 days ago, It was born breech and became stuck she had the rest at the vets office, 3 little girls, but we lost the 1st one, So its just GREAT your baby did it all by her self, Get a box put it in a quite area. lay a baby blanket in it and a heating pad on low under the blanket, Keep them warm, Feed momma puppy food, I give whelping pudding with food three times a day for the 1st week, I then give a half of tumbs crushed up in food 1 x a day after the 1st week, Just watch momma, If she had 5 make sure 5 plasintas came out, Keep I on her temp rectal, It should be no higher then 103.2, For a few days it will run a little high my bitches was 102.7, Make sure shes feeding the babies,not stepping on them or moving them, Mom should stay with pups except to potty and eat,Weigh pups, they should gain weight daily, My pups were only 3oz at birth, If you need more info just pm me any time,

also my Bella did pant some the next day but every thing was norm, I new she had no pups inside or plasinta because she gave birth at the vets and xrays were done after the delivery. Panting could be a sign shes hot, Make sure shes drinking water, again if her temp reaches over 103.2 go to the vet, if shes not eatting, or drinking, not feeding her babies,If Shes lethargic,stiff,crying,pushing after no pups are left inside, seek help, I no you dont have a vet on hand because this was a surpize but there should be a 24hr vets office, Bella delivered on a saturday so I had to use the 24 hour vets,

well she is good she stop panting the 5 puppies are doing fine she is just relaxing all seems to be going well so i am going to the store to get her some supplies to make welping pudding ect any sugguestions on what else would be a good idea to get while im out ...thanks guys

Nutrical or Karo syrup. Nursing bottles and milk supplement, just in case.

Tumbs are great to give, puppy chow if shes not already on it, I like mixing wet and dry together,

I've never had good luck with the whelping pudding, my girls don't like it. If your momma doesn't eat it you could try my "recipe" for a few days. It's 1 can of goat's milk (from the baking aisle of Walmart), 1 can of water, 1 egg yolk, 1 tablespoon Karo syrup, pinch salt substitute and 1-2 tablespoon plain or vanilla yogurt. My momma's love this and it helps them get calcium, nutrition, and fluids all in one. You can also mix this goat's milk formula with canned food to help "spark" their appetite. Sometimes you have to put the food into the whelping area if the momma won't leave the puppies to eat. If I need to supplement puppies I use the same goat's milk recipe with either less yogurt or none and it works well as a puppy formula too.
Make sure your girl's whelping area is warm but not too hot because if it's too hot the puppies won't nurse well and will get dehydrated plus the mom won't lay with the puppies. You will know it's a nice temp in the area if the puppies are laying close together and mom is laying with them. If the puppies are all spread out it's too warm. I keep my area 77-80 degrees but having no drafts is very important. Also keep her in a quiet area, especially since this is her first litter. It will help her relax and feel secure, if momma is worried or uptight she may pace around or pick up her puppies and move them around potentially injuring one or cause her to not produce enough milk because of stress.
Weighing puppies is very important to make sure they are gaining weight and doing well. I use a postal scale because it weighs in grams which is more accurate than ounces - especially for newborns. You will know they are getting enough milk when they lay quiet, crying puppies who are crawling around their box are either too cold or hungry. I weigh mine twice a day for the first week then daily until 2 weeks old. After 2 weeks old I weigh them every week. I even have a weight chart I can share with you if you would like. It's normal for puppies to lose a little weight the first couple of days but they should gain it back by day 4 or 5 and some never lose weight.
Your puppies should be taken to the vet between days 3-5 for dewclaw removal and tail docking. I'm a little concerned that your vet will not know the proper distance to dock a Yorkie's tail so if you can have someone go with you to the vet for this that knows where it should be done that would be great. If I were closer to you I would offer to go with you but I'm halfway across the country. ;)

i dont think that u should use my vet because he told me that she was going through false pregnancy so we were un prepared for all of this thank god for all the help full people at the forum we were able to get through this we only felt them moving saturday afternoon at 2 or so and she gave birth lastnight @2am this morning all over my bed but we are grate ful that she and the pups are doing ok if you guys have any more suggestions i am wide open and what else should i keep an eye on ect...

what sizes were the puppies? how many girls and boys??

Ha! I wanted to make sure I don't use that vet.... I have a friend in Crofton.. would you want me to see if she could stop by to offer assistance? I'm about an hour away or I would offer myself...

main thing now is to make sure they are all nursing, watch that their bellies fill up a bit... and that Mom is producing milk.... make sure all airways are clear... and nose bubbles could indicate fluid in the lungs.... may need to use an infant aspirator to clear it.... do you have a back up vet or ER vet... maybe my friend can recommend one for you....

A little food scale could be used to check their weights... they may lose a bit the first couple of days after birth but then as they settle into nursing they should start gaining consistently... Checking their weight is very important... it's the only way to tell if they're doing okay as not gaining could be a problem at their age...
