omg what happned ok let me start off by saying that i am freeked out ok what happned is my yorkie puppy displayed signs of being preagnant we took her to the vet they did two x rays on two seperate occasions they said she was not preagnant and she was going through false pregnancy so she will show all the signs of being pregnant......well this morning she jumped up on my lap and i felt a kick on my leg:eek: so i flipped her over omg i saw movement now tell me is this normal with false pregnancy becuse i dont think so friday coming will make it 63 days she has been pregnant what do i do:confused: if she is what care do i need to give her |
Start gathering supplies, contact your vet. Get her in for another x-ray |
woudnt x rays be bad at this point |

since you are still refering to her as a puppy, most definately get her xrayed asap... whe you took her before, the bones may not have calsified yet, meaning they wouldnt show up- but your vet should have known this and told you. i take it you have no idea what the father/fathers would be? this is something that the vet needs to check out- it may be a c-section situation. |
From her post, she seems to know that day 63 is coming up quickly. Therefore, it would be reasonable to assume that she knew who the father(s) potentially are since the mating would have been known about. |

to op- basically go along with all you had learned and prepared etc, prior to being told it was a phantom, 'simple' as that really. and let the sires owner and your mentor know asap to, as i'm sure you wouldnt be comfortable being the hands-on whelper... didnt someone post here before about a girl they could have sworn was pregnant, but there was literally nothing there- and they could see movement to? |

I agree with all of the above.. especially when Bellemarie said your vet should have known that puppies would not show up on an xray if it is done before a certain date. and if he did not know that, I would take her to a vet that knows more about gestation in dogs |
what had happned was that i had went on vacation and she went into heat my mom has a yorkie so when i got back we suspected that she might have bin pregnant becuse of her behiviour so we took her to our vet we did a xray 2 weeks ago and their was nothing so according to him she was not.. by my calculation from the time i got from vacation friday coming will be 63 days when he took the x ray he did the time line to and he said that we would be able to see the skeletons....but we saw nothing i did not want her to have any puppies becuse she only 1 year old we are not prepared for any of this thats why im freeking out .... |
Bones don't calcify until about day 51. Before that time, there isn't enough ossification for the bones to show up clearly on an xray. Do you have any idea what breed the sire might be if she is whelping? She's young, was this her first heat cycle? If you have any concerns, then it's up to you to take her back to the vet for another examination and xray. |
its a morkie that she got pregnant by and this is her second heat cycle |
i would like to think that the vet knows about ossification if not he has no right to even be in buisness |
Are you certain that the movement was puppies that you felt and not her? I have a little girl here with me that is pregnant and I took her to the vet since she looked like she was and he was not able to feel any puppies. Told us to wait and then I felt movement and called him the next day. We took her in for an xray and it showed 4 puppies. I would get her in and soon. The more you know the better you will be prepared. I have been doing nothing but reading every thing I could find on labor and delivery for this dog. I have found some wonderful people here that help answer the questions that I have and help keep me sane while we wait for puppies to come with no idea of when she is due. There are also a lot of puppie births on youtube that are really good and some even show when a puppy is in trouble. My thought is better to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. Keep us posted. Can't wait to see what you find out. |
Two different doctors examined her and said there were no puppies there....how could they miss something like this......wouldn't this be malpractice????? |
up date miss lizzy just started scratching the bed like crazy she normaly does this to sleep but she wont quit and she is panting ALOT? |
you need to get her to an ER vet asap if you have never whelped puppies. |
The scratching is your girl making her "nest" and with the panting is a sign of labor. Do you have anyone close by with whelping experience who could come help you? If not, please call your vet. Teresa |
She having pupps already ...3 so far.....mother is doing great.......anything special we should know? |
"....anything special we should know?" Only about a hundred different things!!!! Tough time to be learning as she is having the puppies though. Hopefully you have read at least some basic whelping info. If not, pls start between pups. I am still awake, if you have problems, feel free to call me. I'll PM the number. Main thing is to make sure she is able to have each one easily and doesn't go more than an hour between puppies. If over an hour and it appears there are still pups inside, then you probably need to take her to the Emergency Vet, along with the pups she has had. Keep everyone warm. A heating pad underneath a plastic box (like an underbed Rubbermade container) will do fine. Make sure the entire area is NOT covered by the heating pad. That way if they need to get away from the heat source, they have room to do that. Overheating leads to dehydration quickly. Has she been chewing through the cords herself or are you cutting them? If you cut the cord, tie thread in two places an inch apart & cut between. When she is done having the puppies, make sure she gets the afterbirth out. There is quite a bit of it. If it does not come out on its own, she needs to go to the vet. I would suggest taking her to the vet when she is all done no matter what. If all is going well, it can wait til your regular vet is open. But I would have him check to make sure all is out and maybe even have him give her the after shot to help as well as examining to check for possible tears. I think I might have been able to save my girl, if I had done this. If an infection develops it can be deadly so very quick. So stay on top of momma and how she is feeling. Here are some sites that can help you out. The first one is my fav. This is probably one of the best online sites for info: Canine Reproduction Video and Book on Breeding and Whelping dogs by Debbie Jensen for dog breeders and Whelping trouble. Here are some others to read too. sorry for duplicate.....took forever then posted twice. ???? |
Has she finished having the little ones? |
She just had her 4th puppy ....not sure if there are any more |
Good job, 3-4 puppies is an average litter but since you are inexperienced you need to take her to your vet as soon as they open. They can check to be sure she is done whelping, examine mom & pups to make sure everyone is ok, and give mom the pitocin shot to make sure all the placentas are detached. Pitocin also helps with bringing in her milk after delivery. Good luck with your puppies. Please make sure they are kept warm and have no drafts. Mom will need lots of fluids and food to make milk for the babies. Teresa |
Whew!! Yes do get her to the vet tomorrow morning and keep plenty of food and water down. Your little momma might need some extra calcium now that is will be nursing. Ask you vet for some calcium supplement. Mine also told me I could give her tums, a little cottage cheese, eggs, cheese...just talk to your vet, they will let you know. Best of wishes. |
she had her 4th pup now but i can still feel a object in her belly she is panting profousley all the placentas are coming out ......thank you guys for all the help you have given me im still up with her .....will keep you posted keep the great info coming i have been on the forum all night long ... |
