Yorkie-Poo in classifieds

Hi,
I am pretty new here, so please tell me if I am doing something that isnt allowed. I keep noticing an ambundance of Yorkies and Yorkie-Poos in the classifieds in my area. My instincts want me to go save them all, but I just can't...so thought there might be someone else who is looking that hasn's seen the ad. Some are "free" and some are for sale for a small price. (some are scams too, which I can pretty easily spot) Is it allowed to post the links to any of these classifieds for those on here who may be looking or interested? I dont want to offend or do anything illegal, but thought there may be a thread that directs others to see an ad of interest? Thanks for any help in directing me to the correct threads, or letting me know if it is even permitted.

Aside from the fact that you won't find a quality yorkie through there, you need to be aware that a lot of those ads are scams. You get an email saying that all they want you to do is cover the shipping of the pup (because they are a missionary overseas...). People send money via Western Union and never see the dog.

Those weren't the actual kind of ads that I was referring to. I was speaking of my local classifieds, all of which I am able to physically go and see the pet, and which no money was exchanged. I have "rescued" pets that way in the past. And when I say "rescue" I just meant that I rescued it, from a home that didnt love it enough to keep it. Or rescued from a possible future horror situation. I answered an ad recently and brought home a beautiful yorkie girl, from a house that was over-whelmed and couldnt keep her. She is a registered pure yorkie, with a few anxiety issues, probably from a chaotic enviroment. We love her and she is "home" now.
I found 2 of my other yorkies thru classifieds too. Rudy will be 14 on Thursday, so I feel that is a happy continuing (ending), which started from a classified ad. I also found Wiffit thru a classified, and she lived a perfect and very long life. I did actually purchase her thru a classified, after visiting the breeder and home in which she was born in.
I understand the scams out there too, all of which need to be watched cautiously. I also understand your thoughts/feelings on the issue too. So I won't post any of that info, in which I inquired about.

I agree with the others, and while I understand you are trying to do a good thing, in reality, by helping bad breeders sell their dogs you are supporting bad breeders, who in turn keep breeding. As long as they can move their "merchandise", they will continue to breed, and they don't care what they are breeding, and it certainly isn't for the betterment of the breed. Please only support legitimate rescues and good breeders who aren't profiteering from dogs.

I guess my post was kind of vague. I meant that I was reading alot in the classifieds about people giving up their yorkies, the ones in their homes already. I wasnt talking about breeders really. I meant people who no longer want, or are no longer are able to care for them. I have been seeing it alot lately. I've inquired about several of them, and most are just situations where they need to "get rid" (which kills me) their yorkie, or yorkie-mix. I've been passing the info along to many of my friends, and reposting classifieds on facebook, and just wondered if there was such a thread here. But I wont do it, as I see it's not something that is permitted at this forum.
Even if they are not "quality" yorkies, I believe they deserve another chance to find a happy loving home.

As for breeders in the classifieds, I was referring to individuals who have breed their own yorkies, in their own homes....and not puppy mills or bad breeders.

The problem is many people buy a yorkie for a few hundred dollars and can't afford the upkeep. Yorkies are an expensive breed to own, especially if the suffer from common genetic illnesses, and there is the grooming expenses as well. When people say quality yorkie, they mean quality breeder, and you are much more likely to receive a healthy dog, who actually looks like a yorkie, but I agree with you all dogs are precious and need a home. I think you should be aware that MOST breeders who breed their dogs in their own homes are also bad breeders, they have not studied the breed, they don't know common genetic problems, and they don't do health testing. They may treat their breeding pair humanely, but a good breeder has homes and a waiting list before she breeds, so she isn't scrambling to find a home, and that dog will always have a home with her if she can't find a suitable home.


You point out a serious problem, especially with mix breed breeding, because you can't determine the adult qualities in a mix, many people are disappointed with the look or personality of their adult dog, and have no problem giving them up, and that why I always recommend that if you are thinking about a mix, go to a shelter or rescue to find it. Also many people learn that their dog has a genetic illness, or even a preventable illness, such as heartworms, and can't afford treatment, so they they will give up their dogs, but you must be aware these free dogs can end up costing many thousands of dollars, if you can afford it fine, but people need to know about this. Another important point is that the biggest growing scam is breeders posing as "rescues." You must be very careful when you buy from a rescue, and check them out throughly.

One rescue, Yorkie Haven Rescue (YHR) Yorkie Haven Rescue is run by a member here, Linda, (Ladyjane) and they are always looking for volunteers and foster mothers. They have taken in many serious cases when owners could no longer afford to care for the dog, and they have given it the treatment it needed and found it a loving home, but there is a real shortage of qualified responsible pet owners.
