Please help me out My yorkie female just gave birth to 5 new babies. 4 boys and a little girl. 3 of the 5 pups she will feed but the runts aren't doing that great with her. I am bottle feeding the runts every 2 hours like the doc says but yesterday she did something really weird and wanted to know what you all thought about it. She buried her runts. I have the pups and momma in a playpen. it has a blanket in it. But she buried her pups under the blanket and then sat on them. Why would she do this? I am trying to keep an eye on them, but every time I see her with them she pushes them away or tries to bury them again.... so confused....

Have you talked to the vet about this specific behaviour? If so, what is their idea?

No its not her first litter. this is her 3rd. mom is 5 years old. The vet said that I should wait it out but to watch her with them. I just dont want her to kill them while I am sleeping one night.

It's not uncommon for females, particularly first time moms, to do this with pups. Most of the time, the weaker or sick pups. Bury them, not tend to them, even take them and hide them away from the rest of the litter, even kill them. Sometimes the females just have an instinct that something is 'wrong' with pups. You will have to continue to be very vigilant with them.
