| ![]() hi, thaks again for all the replys! they are all doing well- they had lost a few grams on their 24hr weigh-in, but gained more today... all 10 have had their vet-check and have a clear bill of health! so yay! callie is getting loads of extra (puppy) food, and is getting chicken, liver etc as well as some lactol... i've also been getting the pups used to the lactol Just incase (touch wood) they need to be supplimented as they get bigger. i'm not overly keen on their vet though; she said that the mother only needs the normal intake of food if on puppy and a bit more if on adult. i dont know a lot about rotties, but i know by looking at her that she needs more than that to support her and 9 pups! i think i've included some pictures; these were taken literally minutes after number 9 (who i'm holding!) was born and colour coded! i'd soooo keep her if i could! i'll have better pictures by this time tomorrow though!

| ![]() Awwwww..... how sweet is that!! We had a litter of Aussies last summer and I agree, while it's not the tiny size that Yorkie people are used to dealing with, it's still a wee bit scary. It was our momma's first litter but I only had to break a couple sacks for her. I would say that you definitely need to have the human-parents feeding the mom some cottage cheese with each meal. Our Stormie loved, loved that! If I remember right, we gave her a good full serving spoon sized scoop in each meal of puppy food. And don't forget the calcium supplements (Pet-tabs). That's a lot of pups and they are gonna really be taking alot out of her so she needs to keep up her strength. Congrats!

| ![]() this evening it was a trip to the vets after it was noticed that callie didnt seem well. i was out and phone reception wasnt good, so i didnt know until i got home and the owners called me about it; at first the vet thought it may hae been a dead puppy that didnt come out, but after an xray they decided it was mastitis. so she staying the night to be collected in the morning if well enough, or if she isnt improving fast enough then they are going to move her to different premises apparently- shes currently on a drip of fluids and antibiotics. my opinion of their vet clinic is going downhill quickly though! they told the owners to syringe (i.e squirt) 5ml of whelpy into each pup every 2 hours overnight; but after the feed of the evening they were still crying- which is when i got the call... the vet-nurses advise was all very well, until you remember that the pups are weighing in at around 18oz or so (i cant remember the weights- they were done while i was mixing formula!). so they need a munimum of 12-15ml. when i then asked if the pups had been stimulated yet or burped he looked at me as if i had 3 heads! none of this had been explained- or mentioned at all! if callie doesnt get home tomorrow (which is a possibility the nurse knows of)then the pups wouldnt have been getting enough food, would have Serious wind and a bursting bladder and bowel- and as for the vets supplying them with enough formula for the overnight feeds; the consistancy she told them was FAR to strong, but there was only enough for 3 proper feeds- to do 12hrs!?! will she be ok to fed the pups when she gets home still on antibiotics for mastitis? i've never had any problems like this with my girls, and as you can imagine, i'm not overly keen on following that vets advice but will call mine in the morning... it really is lovely to know that even though she isnt a yorkie, she still has loads of people here rooting for her, so thanks!
