One of my Champion girls would completely loose her mind when she went into Season (she's now spayed). She'd get all cuddley, while we were trying to groom her for the ring, she'd roll over on her back want her belly rubbed, want to be carried around. Try showing a girl that was acting completely like a pet. About a week after her cycle was over, she'd be being groomed and we'd finish the topknot, she'd get up on all fours and bark.....my handler would smile and say "she's back"......she'd be back to normal and show like a dream.

Yeah Holly is acting like a nut and then all she does is sleep and doesn't whant anyone near but me ;)

Penny will be 1 year old on April 8th and she JUST went into heat two days ago. I am so proud of her! :D Dont worry it will happen sooner or later.

OK i'm not sure what is going on My girl has bee swollen for going on to her 2nd week and she has not started bleeding yet but she still has yellowish discharge. Vet said it was not infection but I'm wondering what it is or is that normal.

chloe is 7months old and She started her first cycle a couple weeks ago, She was swollen for a few days before the bleeding started, And she bled quite a bit. She wasnt cranky but very sad pathetic looking laying on me looking for comfort. I did my best with warm towels from the dryer for her to lay on and massages to help her out. She bled for approx 5 days.


Ok so heres my question .....Its been at least a week since the bleeding stopped tho and her nipples and lady parts are still bigger than they were before the heat cycle started.....Will they ever shrink back down? or has she grown her adult parts..lol sounds silly but It seems so big for her lil body.

Some dogs don't have their first heat until after a year.

Pennie is 8 months and no heat yet, Gracie is 10 months and no heat yet. It just depends on the dog.

The vulva almost always swells right before blood, then it will swell even more after the bleeding starts..

Please be aware that belly wraps and diapers will not keep your dogs from mating, you have to keep them completely apart.;)

Um...you do realize that you are giving advice to someone on a comment that they posted 4 1/2 years ago, right? :p I think it's pretty safe to say that she's got it under control by now. ;)

Actually nope I didn't notice at all. It had new posts besides mine so it came up as new to me so I posted. I don't see the big deal, it's still a really good question and subject.

They will all go back to normal.....The only time the nipples remain larger is when a female has produced a couple of litters. Now her vulva will shrink back to normal.

i have a yorkie she will be 1yr next month . she is in heat cuz ive noticed bleeding .swelling and lickin herself alot .. but my question is for the breeders cuz i tried breeding her but she would let the male breed with her . then she started putting her back towards him like she wanted too and the male didt want to she is now in her 2nd week of being in heat so should i try again ??? thanks for the help in advance

SHe is way to young to breed!! Please don't allow her to breed this young and do some research on what testing should be done prior to ever breeding a dog.
