| new baby with harelip We just had 4 babies, 1st little buy was born dead, 2nd little boy has a harelip. My vet says to not even mess with it, told me to bring it to the office and they would put him to sleep. Is this something I need to do, or can I care for him till he is older? I am just heart broken that the vet took this attitude. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. |

| I am so sorry. I know that must be really hard on you right now. You might read this thread from before: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...questions.html There is a posting in there from lilfoot about her puppy having a hair lip. Maybe you could PM her? As far as your vet, that sounds a little cold to me. But I personally do not have any experience with this issue. However, if I didn't like his attitude I would consider a 2nd opinion. Are the other two babies ok? Good luck and let us know what happens. |

| I have a hairlip little girl. She is now three and has absolutly nothing else wrong with her and she is a happy healthy little girl. If your pup does not have a cleft palet and it is just a hairlip he should be fine. He may have a hard time latching on to mom and if you are willing to hand feed him he can live a normal life. My vet said not to fix it because it will cause more problems if fixed if not fixed. I would get a second opinion. Please. You can PM me if you would like. She is my pride and joy. |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Im sorry to hear that. I agree I think your vets attitude was a little cold.. I would take her to a different vet and make sure that putting him to sleep is the only option.
