I'm sorry, but 10 days is simply not enough. A "good start" is not what is best for her female--someone with experience to be there during the whelp woudl be better. If brutal honesty is what it takes to make her (or someone else reading) really consider that and actually seek what's best for the dogs rather than the ego, then so be it. |

I agree with you, with what she should of done, or really what she shouldn't of, I don't think she was right in breeding, and yes she needs someone on hands to help her now, but in my case I will help anyone I can if it saves a pup. 1 or 10 days. I may not like it or agree with them, but I will try my best to save a pup and the bitch. |

It's this kind of mentality that sets the never ending supply of discarded dogs that end up in shelters and or rescues. When individuals who are not true mentored breeders set out to deliberately have that "one" litter...they will never imagine the consequences of their actions...unless the truth is doled out along with the assistance they requested. If each byb or puppymill could live the life of a discarded dog from just one of their litters or better yet, do what shelters & rescues do day in and day out...I'd hope they'd learn something from their actions. One more thing...YT is not the end all of places for assistance to help with the delivery of a litter. She should consult with her Veterinarian for these concerns vs. an online community...but, that's jmho.;) |

The OP has my phone number. |
I've been following this thread, agreeing with the reputable breeders. This dog should not have been bred in such ignorance! I get unbelievably angry at people who just want their dog to have puppies once, to cover the costs, to have a friend, whatever. Shame on the OP for letting this pregnancy happen. Sorry for being harsh. I feel for the dam and the puppies. That being said, I have been spending a lot of time online, doing research about breeding yorkies. My mentor will entrust me with two of her females at the end of this year (I can't wait!!) and we will breed show yorkies. The reason I am saying this is that I came across a website that the OP will find incredibly helpful! This is the most descriptive website about what can happen when your dog goes into whelp. It also has pictures to illustrate every story. Read this before your girl goes into whelp! So you want to breed, I want to breed my Dog, Should I breed My Dog? |

I'm borrowing a quote from someone without revealing their name. But, it does say alot. "I have always disliked the idea of YT becoming a safe haven for some people that decided they are going to breed. Where they are patted on the head, told that 'what's done is done', and then had their hand held through the process. Sends the message that 'hey, no matter how bad I screw up, these people are always going to bail me out..." Sorry, but I can't condone that." The OP has been on this forum for awhile, plenty of time to have read and realized what they were doing was incorrect. |

Again, this OP was not bashed...she was educated...period. |
I'm one of those that helps because of the dogs. But, each situation is different. This OP has been a member here for 3 years so she can't claim innocent ignorance. And this was a deliberate breeding...not an oops litter. All that was recognized by the ones posting earlier on this thread and still there was no bashing. I think I should know as I've complained about rude people in the past...but there was none of that here. Just a mild scolding to the OP. Somehow, she took offense at these posts. I honestly don't know what to make of someone like this. I can tell you that being that high strung/thin skinned at whelping time won't be good. I hope some of you can reach some level of communication with her, for the sake of the dam and pups. Lord knows they need the help. |
