When searching for your mentor.....you want one that has a great line, respected, well known. The person you chose as your mentor is usually going to be your breeder. There was a great article in one of the YT Magazines on how to find a mentor. I think I may have posted it on here....

I will say I may never be a great breeder in the sense of say a Roberta Rothenbach, Lee Grunewald, Lorraine Hayes, Sharon McCadam, Doreen Hubbard......these women are legends.....But, in everything I do, I try to honor them since they are the ones that worked so hard and contributed to my dog's pedigrees......
I absolutely love that line Mary, what a great way to look at how one is breeding....:thumbup: those women contributed their heart & soul for the yorkie breed and every breeder should strive to be one of them!

Strive to be one of them yes. But, they entrusted me with their lines, the lines they put years, blood, sweat and tears into. It would be a dishonor to them if I misused them, messed them up by being irresponsible, didn't guard them and improve on them.

But, it doesn't have the right to be shown as a Yorkshire Terrier in AKC Conformation Events.

No matter how you look at it the Parti is still a fault a fault that is a the only "Disqualification" within the Standard....Will the Standard be changed, more than likely, but only to become more stringent.

We need to uphold the standard and breed to what it says and for the well being of the Yorkshire Terrier and what it's suppose to look like. The health of the Yorkshire Terrier should be the #1 priority but since it's not in the standard and it's up to us as breeders to keep that in the forefront. However, since the Parti color is the only "Disqualification" within the standard so therefore it can't be shown and as Mary said, the DQ will be redone more strictly but more well worded. We are here to protect the Yorkshire Terrier and the well being of this wonderful breed.

Where can I look up when there is a show in southern CA? I really want to go to one and check it out.

Thanks you soo much for this thread! It because of this thread I found mentor! Time to begin my lifelong journey learning how to better the breed :)

The best way is to check out the Superintendents that handle the shows.

Here is also another one from AKC, which include all the superintendents' shows- http://www.akc.org/events/search/ind...action=results

I just went to Events and chose a state and hit search. Now scroll down and look for AB (All Breed Shows) and this is where you will find confirmaiton shows in your area. They will also list the Speciality shows, but you have to look at the clubs name on the left side when scrolling for those.

ooh those tables are hard on the eyes :( I saw one yorkie show in Oct but in nor cal. Thanks though.
