The breeding seminar I mentioned above in Atlanta will cover the follwing topics:

*Pedigree Analysis, Breeding Strategies & Other Topics - Jerold Bell, DVM (noted DVM on the YTCA Foundation site)
*Reproduction
*Vaccinations
*Endocrine Disease
*Canine Cancer
*Neurology

Regular All Breed Shows will sometimes have seminars at their shows - see program of the shows for announcements. Specialty shows will also have seminars, most of the times - check region clubs for these seminars.

To Disney and others that have an interest in the breed; while this forum is a great place to obtain initial information. When one has a true passion for the breed, nothing can take the place of a good mentor. One that is very knowledgable in the breed of your choice. Not one that is just a breeder, but one that has shown and immersed theirselves in the breed.

Well said Mary!! Breeding is complicated and shouldn't be taken lightly! I can't say enough but that is why I always say I prefer the show ring vs. the whelping box! But I have so much passion for this breed and I just don't care for it being destroyed or can be destroyed. These guys are my heart and soul next to my husband and daughter and grandchildren!

It's only considered a genetic fault by those who want it gone. If you feel the need to scare people away from the parti by comparing it to a bad bite...by all means...that is your prerogative. IMO...it shows how paranoid and desperate some people are concerning the color and it's advancements.

I'm willing to bet the show breeders who are still using the black and tan's, black and gold's and the blue and gold's in their programs do not consider those colors a genetic fault.

I'm not paranoid or desperate it's called "following" the standard when it comes to showing to the breed representation. Black in color is genetic, blue is genetic, gold is genetic no one disputes that and Black is a fault no one is questioning that.
When one is wanting to get involved in "AKC" showing they have to know the standard and what is considered a fault and what is not allowed in the show ring you educate them on the standard and how is that paranoia? It's called following what is set by the YTCA. Bad bites is not a life threating fault as a color is not it's just fact plain and simple. You breed to the breed standard that is set. That's not paranoia....

It is a fault based on the genetics within a breeding pair. Not a scare tactic.

There are those that have a passion for the Yorkshire Terrier Breed and the Standard set forth by the YTCA/AKC. Not paranoid at all, just a desire to perserve the standard.

If your not breeding the correct color whether it be black, light blue ect...it's a genetic fault...you improve on it and do right by the breed. Can't get any plainer than that. If your not breeding for the correct bite, good topline, good structure, good health it's all genetic....it's black and white. The standard is there to follow it's a rule and a rule you must follow until it's changed. Again, not paranoia or desperate just following simple rules set by the YTCA who is the mother club of the Yorkshire Terrier.
