I have tried hand feeding her. What is the puppy pudding? Where is that so I can look it up and make that for her. I appreciate your help, maybe this pudding stuff will work |

Good luck and let us know how it goes. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...g-recipes.html |
I would recommend you get her off the Science Diet food asap. I feel it is a poor quality food and it contains soy which is a very bad ingredient for dogs, especially pregnant and nursing females. I recommend a food like Natural Balance, Solid Gold puppy or Chicken Soup puppy. There are other quality foods out there so you just need to see what is available in your area. Check the label of the foods. If it says soy in any form on the label then I would avoid it. If you do find a different dog food then you will want to introduce her slowly to the new food. You can do a search on YT for 'whelping pudding' and you will find different recipes for it. Here is one recipe that has been posted on YT before: 16 oz. water 1 pkg. Knox Gelatin (micro. to disolve) 15 oz. can evap. milk 2 tabls. vanilla yogurt 2 egg yolks 2 tabls. white corn syrup mix all ingred. in bowl let set in fridge until thickens. Spoon out as needed. Here's another to give to mom immediately after whelping 1 can of goats milk (sold at Wal-mart where the evaporated milk is sold) equal parts of water 1 egg yolk 1 table spoon of Karo syrup. Helps to get her strength back. Place a bowl right up to her and she'll lap it right up. Both of the recipes help with milk production. |
That's the oddest thing. I had her on solid gold. But on the side there is an AFCO statement that says for all life cycles which I heard is bad for her when she is nursing. I will have to go back and get some of the other. I do still have some solid gold which I offered her just to see if she would eat it but she didn't. Thanks for the recipes. I will go get the stuff and try that. I hope it works. I'm just worried about her at this point.. The puppies seem to be doing well. I just really want to see her eat. |
I had originally stopped the SD because I had heard a while ago it wasn't the best, then I guess had doubts when my vet pointed some stuff out. Is Solid Gold what you give your babies? |
k My girl just had puppies tuesday. I was also worried because she was not eating and panting. It is day 3 and she just started eating a little more. She is still very picky and has to be hand fed. She wont eat anything except Boiled chicken(white meat) with some chicken broth in it and beef cubes. Slowly i am starting to mix other things. Your girl will come around. Congrats and Good Luck!! |

Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul : Home Here is a good website that gives reviews on just about all brands of dog foods. It would be worth your while to check it out. I would recommend using one of the 5 star dog foods. I prefer using a food that is around 28% protein. |
congrats on your litter....please post pictures....nothing sweeter than puppies! LOL |

i would get her on some puppy formula because with the 4 nursing babies...she is going to need all the nutrients she can get.... |
She is actually eating.... I used the recipe's referred to me above and she drank the goats milk mixture and then I poured some on her food and let it sit for a little bit and she actually ate some food. Whew~ then this morning I gave her the mixture on her food again and warmed it up and she ate again... She wasn't a picky eater when she was prego but boy has that changed.. I mixed up some whelping pudding this morning as well so I can give that to her as recommended above. I will check out the website. I will keep everyone posted to how she is doing and the babies. |
I haven't been able to figure out how to get them posted. They are in my album though if you want to look there. I'm still trying to figure this all out. I'm not sure how to get them in the thread. |
I looked at the mom and pups in your album and they are adorable. You can also start a thread on them in the nursery section. I am glad mom is eating better. I have never used the whelping pudding myself but I know a lot of people do. |
