Hi, I'm new here and my yorkie is 61 days pregnant with 1st litter. How do I know when she is in labor. I have read and watched everything I can but I am nervous. She has 4 babies and her temp is on the downward slide it was 98.9 two hours ago.:aimeeyork |
Hello and Welcome to YT! I am sorry I don't have advice for you. |

She was all night last night but now she is just sleeping all stretched out and babies are moving like crazy |
Also, does the milk come in before or after babies? I've had some people tell me before and some after? So I am not sure what to expect. |
I'm sorry I can't give advice on breeding but wanted to say Welcome. |
Thank you. I have read YT for a while but thought I'd join today. I'm really excited to be here. |
Oops, posted in wrong thread. |
Welcome to YT! If you have read everything and have been preparing yourself, then you should already know the answers to these questions. You are probably just nervous and second guessing yourself, right? |

I have read other breeders here at YT say they also get nervous each their girls are preparing to have a litter. Hopefully, they will drop in and give you some advice. ;) I am not a breeder. I know I am not cut out for it. I hope it all goes well with your girl. |

You will notice her behavior change. Do not leave her. You said her temp was 98.9...have you retaken it? If its staying down then she could have them 12-24 hours from the temp drop :) you will notice small contractions. and possible small pushes. The babies are moving down. I would also call your vet and let them know whats going on. Always better to be safe than sorry. That way they know. keep her in the whelping area, have your supplies ready and most of all good luck! wishing you a safe, healthy whelp. |

Well another day came and went and no babies still. Her temp went up last night to 100.4 but is down to 99 again today. So hopefully she sill have babies today. It is day 62. |
Keep us posted. Hoping everything goes well for you and your baby. |
It was a long night last night but still NO babies. Going to the vet at 11:30. I think she might be starting now. Temp has been low for over 24 hours and since 330 she has been nesting and keeps changing the way she is laying. But still trying to sleep.. I have no clue what's going on as this is my first. Hope it all goes well. |
I hope everything is ok. Sounds like she is doing fine just taking her time. |
.. Hello, and Welcome to YT.. I am not a breeder but I did have my first litter yesterday. I did everything you are doing. I was a sponge reading everything and asking questions. I was ready ....then the first puppy was in site and I got nervous. After that it was well. She is definetly getting ready. My girl did the same thing. Couldnt get comfortable, trying to sleep but only for 10min at a time and panting. Let us know what vet said k Good Luck!! |
Well it's official.. We welcomed in 4 girls... How rare is that? All are doing great. |
congratulations...hope you will be posting pictures soon |
Babies are here!! 4 Healthy girls OK, so I looked every where and either I'm missing or I'm crazy. I can only get them in the album.. I did switch one to my profile picture, hope everyone can see them. I'm pretty proud of my girl. Can anyone tell me how common it is for her to just have females and no males? Not complaining but just really curios.. If anyone can send pointers on this site it would be great. I really enjoy it. Thanks Laurie and my fur~babies:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork :aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
My little momma had only 2 boys in Feb. I wanted a little girl but both were very precious. Congrats on your new family!! :) |
Congratulations on your 4 girls. I don't know how common it is, but about a month ago a member from Hawaii got 7 girls in one litter. |
Congratulations on your new litter. I pray momma and babies do well. I have had all girl litters a number of times. Some males throw a lot of girls and some don't. I think timing also has a lot to do with it. |
Thank you:):) I wasn't sure if it was common or not. Sounds like it could be. Boy, 7 puppies in Hawaii. WOW. Didn't even know that was possible. Bet that's rare. I do have a question though if anyone knows.. My Sasha:aimeeyork who just gave birth is not eating, I have tried tricking her and now she won't take anything. She really isn't drinking either. She has been urinating, where she is getting that is news to me. She was drinking better this morning but nothing this afternoon evening time. And she ate a bit last night and first thing this morning but then that pretty much stopped as well. Is this normal? Will she get her appetite back? Any help on this would be great |
I have a litter of seven now also, 5 females and 2 males. They are now 5 weeks old and are all doing great. It is very important that mom eats 3 or 4 good meals a day. Some new mommas like to be hand fed. Just keep trying to get her to eat. All my mommas have done well with just the dry Chicken Soup puppy food mixed with some canned Pedigree puppy food. You can also add scrambled egg, cottage cheese or yogurt. Mine also love a few egg noodles mixed in. Be sure to keep a close eye on the mommas temperature. Sometimes they can get a uterus infection after having pups and that can be very dangerous. If you have Nutri-cal it would be good to give the nursing momma some of that a few times a day until her appetite picks up. Good luck with your babies. |
