| PLEASE HELP....Pregnant Yorkie.. I have a Yorkie who is pregnant. Her 63 days would be Tuesday. She has been acting really different today....I took her temp ...first time was 98 second was 99. The vet told me if her temp goes under 100 we will have pups with in 24 hrs. This our first time for pups....can anyone give me any pointers....or tell me anything that I may need when these pups are born. Thanks! |

| Oh wow! I have no advice for you because I have never experienced having puppies...nor do I want to. Good luck! I pray your girl handles the birth okay....as well as her pups. |

Just how inexperienced are you and do you have your supplies on hand? How big is your girl? Did you get an x-ray to know how many pups to expect?

| Here's a link to at least get you started. Every subject on the left side is clickable and you'll get info and pictures. Dog Breeding and Canine Reproduction by Debbie Jensen. Dog Breeding and Whelping guide for dog breeders. If you're totally inexperienced, you may want to consider taking her to the vet at whelping time. Yorkies are not a breed where you can let nature take its course. Assistance and intervention is necessary.

My question is Tuesday the 63rd day of her last breeding? So a female can whelp anywhere from the 58th day of her first breeding to the 63rd day of her last breeding. While temp taking can be an indication that her time is near. The temp must remain down for 12 - 24 hours....During the last few days the temp may fluxuate. I've had girls that their temp never went down. My first suggestion is notify your vet if you see contractions beginning, just to prepare him, in case you need him. I'm sure you prepared yourself buy obtaining all your whelping supplies and meds.

| What exactly have you done so far to prepare yourself for the delivery of these puppies? What have you done to prepare yourself for their care and the care of the dam after the whelp? What advice has your breeding mentor given you so far? Just trying to figure out specifically what you need pointers on. "Tell me what I need" and "give me any pointers" encompasses A LOT. Just trying to get a better understanding of which areas you actually need help in. |
