Sorry to admin if this is posted in wrong section, But I wanted it to get noticed as much help as possible.

OK first I would like to start by saying please Understand I am not a bad person..I have been a YT member long enough to know I'm risking ridicule and judgment by sharing this situation. But I really want expert advise not a heated debate on how irresponsible I am and how I am a horrible person...

Chloe is almost 8 months old now. I purchased her and her brother(And gave the brother to my mom to ease the pain of a recent loss of her other dog) I was going to have Chloe spayed, But My family asked if I would breed her once. Now I am no breeder, And have no desire to do it for money, or more than once. I did however plan on breeding her in her second heat cycle or later based on research, I wasn't going to go in blindly, I would want to learn everything possible first.. The offspring were going to go to my family only. I have 2 aunts, A sister and A cousin who are very responsible people, Who love Chloe and would love them..Obviously if she had a small litter they were gonna have to draw straws, And if more I would find a home to my Immediate friends (For no monetary gain.) Or even keep one myself.

So with that said Chloe went into her first heat cycle about 2-3 weeks ago she started bleeding and her vulva was very swollen. About 5 days into her cycle My partner went into the hospital (he is still in there) With pneumonia and they found a mass in his lung while doing a broncia-scope. So I was spending a lot of time at the hospital, And Chloe had never been apart from me, as I am a stay at home daddy. So I felt horrible for her she was freaking out!! I decided to give her to my mother for the weekend so she could be looked after better, And I could rest assured she was OK, And focus on my partner. I knew this would be an issue as bear (the male puppy aka Chloe's brother) wasn't neutered.(Which my moms vet told her to wait as hes having teeth issues and he wanted to do both at the same time and hes scheduled for both later this month.) I bought diapers for Chloe so he couldn't penetrate as well as little short type pants for her to wear, As well as leaving specific instructions to watch them so closely, joking we didn't want any 6 toed babies.

Now its been a few weeks from her period and her nipples are still extended and larger, Even tho her vulva has shrunk. And it was only today that It really hit me SHE LOOKS PREGNANT!!!! Her stomach looks bigger! Theres no way my mom has assured me, And says that they never were locked. She says he was trying to hump her throughout the weekend but was sure he couldn't have impregnated her as the diaper was always on when he was around her. Well Ive done research and found that they do not have to lock to impregnate. I have also seen that a sign could be if they throw up yellow bile, (which she did today) I am sure she tried but if she was letting them play who knows what can happen in the blink of an eye..(how with the diaper I don't know)

I called my vet and have set up an x-ray for Monday (which is also the day my hubby gets released from the hospital) And I'm praying she isn't, But if she is, And I am the worst owner ever, And I allowed incest what can I expect.. Do i abort the pregnancy (which I read can be dangerous)?Am i crazy to consider letting her birth the litter if she is as some sites claim they can lead a normal life. I'm just feeling horrible right now, And nobody can beat me up worse than me, So please try and be helpful by not attacking me.

I am no one to judge anybody, We are all human. I am sorry that your partner is in the hospital and I hope he is able to return home very soon and healthy. It sounds like you are on the right track on any decisions you will make for your little girl as you already have her going to the vet.

You're so not a bad daddy. Life happens sometimes and I pray your partner is ok. You can have your Chloe spayed during her pregnancy. I don't know if there is a time limit on that but I know it can be done.

Thank you very much, He is doing much better he has been in the hospital for 2 wks, So I am anxious for him to come home as well. They did a biopsy And everything is ok, And his chest tube(used to drain the lung) is getting taken out tomorrow...I'm just so stressed I feel like a bad parent that I just noticed this afternoon.

Oh boy :( Reasonable members will not jump all over you but will try to help you with that is going on. You are looking and asking help for a situation that has happened already and need assistance. No bashing. :)

I am not a breeder so I am a little confused by your post where you say that you are taking her for an Xray to see if she is pregnant. It is my understanding that and Xray is only good to determine the size and placement of the puppies and not to determine pregnancy. :confused:

With that said, I don't know what the time frame is for having a spay in the event that she is pregnant. If the option is still available my advice would be to go forward with the spay immediately. They are brother and sister and again I have no idea how to even address this issue either. The brother needs to be neutered as well.

I do think that you should ask for this thread to be moved over to the breeder forum since you will get a much better answer to your questions.

I am very sorry to hear that your partner has been in the hospital and hope that all will turn out well for him. You do not need more on your plate then you already have.

I am sure some of the experienced breeders can help you. As Dvlshangel985 said, it is possible to spay during pregnancy.

Also, just a note on the brother/sister mating: I know it sounds really icky, but it's actually very common for breeders to mate related dogs to build consistency in their lines. So yes, it's unfortunate that an unplanned mating occurred, but "incest" is not the same for dogs as it is for people. Hope that makes you feel a little better.

Also, this is coming from someone who has never bred a dog, but Thor has vomited yellow bile before, and he definitely wasn't pregnant. :) This can also happen if their stomachs get too empty. Keeping my fingers crossed she isn't preggers.

Thank you, I do not really know alot myself except what Ive read. I did not talk directly to the vet but a receptionist who I told the situation too, and I said I think need an x-ray or something, She just gave me the first avail appointment, But didnt express whether I was correct in needing an x-ray or not.

I know that there are a lot of great threads on here with timelines on when what can be done. spay, xray, feel puppies, ect.. I can not find it or any of them.

Actually It does make me feel a little better. I did read that while looking for answers on a few sites but wasn't sure if this was controversial, and didn't want a debate on my hands So that's why i kinda asked about keeping the litter, but didn't really elaborate or get to into it..I had visions of members with pitch forks and torches hunting me down..lol

YT has been acting up for me too. I tried doing a search but everything is so slow.

It has been really slow for me tonite and I could not even log on for about 10 minutes earlier:eek:. I know that some great people will be able to provide accurate information.

your not a bad dad things happen but if i were you ide abort.What if you had deformed puppies...then you would have to make the choice to put them down anyway and its going to be much harder after there born..a bay is a baby and breaks the heart to lose even if its the best thing for them. Hang in there

While I know these are dogs, incest still makes me scared and a little creeped out. Scared that a brother/sister mating will bring out the worst in their lineage (which I hope not) or they can bring out the best, like Quicksilver said. Creeped out because, well... their siblings and I'm human, we don't do that!!! I guess I'll go get my pitchfork now, what time should I come over and tar and feather you? :p

There is also the possiblity of this being a false labor. Bella went through this after her first heat cycle & it lasted for quite some time. There were alot of members here that gave great advice on the subject. You can search to see if her symptoms relate.

I was actually just discussing this with a breeder a few days ago, because I was really surprised (and grossed out) to learn how frequently dogs are mated to relatives. But I guess it's necessary in many cases.

Now, it's my understanding that a breeding that close (brother/sister) is only done by very experienced breeders, because it tends to accentuate attributes, both good and bad. I can't advise you if this particular pair poses more significant risks, and I'm sure there are other concerns, such as the female's age and if she's big enough for a litter. But your dogs did not "violate" each other or anything like that.

I will keep looking, I would think that a really experienced breeder should be on here. It seem like most "puppy watches" happen at nite:)

Now what kind of a YT family would we be if we weren't here to make you feel a little better? Your partner needs you to be strong for him, so relax, absorb what can and if Mardelin or the other experienced breeders reply, really read over their advice. I highly respect people like Mardelin.

i donno if its the same in dogs but i used to breed show rabbits and line breeding was different from inbreeding Line breeding which carrys on the same line is to breed Daughter to father or grandfather and son to mother or grandmother. sister to brother was still thought of as inbreeding but LINE breeding was not only acceptable but common practice

Exactly And I'm sure genetic testing would need to be done. I guess I am just gonna pray she isn't as shes not at the body weight i would think she should be bred at either as shes only 4 lbs, But if she is she would have to be at least two weeks in. And Ill have a lot of questions about the aborting process, as I never thought I would have to think about abortion issues with a pet, I am pro life but does that pertain to animals.. So many things running through my mind, im weird-ed out but Hopefully Monday Ill have answers.

I just want to say how sorry I am that you have so much to deal with all at one time, it sounds a bit overwhelming.

I don't have much knowledge or advice for your Yorkie's situation, although I did have a Schnauzer pup that came in heat at 5 months and accidentally mated, so I had her spayed as soon as her bleeding & swelling stopped and "if" there were puppies they were aborted.

How big is your Yorkie? Her size should be considered also in the safety of letting her have babies. I'm sure you wouldn't want to risk loosing her to provide pups to your relatives.

I looked to see if someone that I know could answer your questions was on line but the breeders like Mardelin, WoogieMan and Brooklynn are not on now.

I am trying to figure out when exactly the mating could have possibly happened.:confused: You said that she was in heat 2 or 3 weeks ago. Bitches in heat are not ready to mate until after the heat ends. If they tied was is 2 or 3 weeks or more recently? I think that she should be fine for a spay. The reason that they do not like to spay during a heat is that the uterus becomes more vascular and more bleeding could occur but in this case if she is pregnant and only 8 months old :(

Thank you yes I agree it isnt worth her life to provide pups to my family, I wasn't going to breed her until/if she reached a desirable weight, and was checked out by my vet first to ensure she was ok to do so. She is just 1 oz over 4lbs now. But also I wouldn't want to do it in her first cycle either as Unless im mistaken Is not a desirable time to do so as shes not ready.

There is a difference between abortion and spay. The spay removed the uterus and they will most likely not even be able to tell if she was pregnant. Now that you are saying she is only 4 lbs and 8 months it is even more dangerous that she might be pregnant. Personally, I wouldn't wait until Monday to have her seen by the vet but instead call and insist on a earlier appointment.

Boy, I hear ya... she is just a baby herself, and still small at that. Hard to imagine her going thru pregnancy and being a mommy. It happens, but not the best timing.

Me too, I am so confused and time has kinda been all jumbled with things going on, So I should clarify she was in heat and stopped bleeding by time i left her with my mom. which was like almost three weeks ago, As my partner before being checked in the final hospital was in the er one night, back the next, and then checked into a new hospital a few days later. But she has also been over there since a couple different times while i was at the hospital, and the last time was two days ago. So I have no clue.:confused:
