How to tell which puppy will have a pixie look?

Thank you. We (kiddingly) call Carly the "ugly little sister", (behind her back of course) funny thing is she soooo sweet, loving, not a mean bone in her body...whereas, Gracie...shall we just say Gracie is more of one person dog? lol --- Gracie is attached to my hip...but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Actually, if the parents have the short muzzle, that doesn't necessarily mean their pups with have a short muzzle. It really depends what is in the lines of the parents. Its all genetics.

You can have parents with a longer muzzle throw a pup with the shorter muzzle, and vise versa. I see it all the time.

I've also seen a shorter muzzled pup have the muzzle grow as he matured

Dominant...although we had bred a short to a long and got all short, but one. Depends on whos genes are stronger

The only thing I've seen that addresses this is that a long head is dominant and a short head is recessive, while a short foreface is dominant and a long foreface is recessive.

Lol, I decided to google it, and it does mean the muzzle according to this website. Dog Terminology. So a short foreface or muzzle is a recessive gene, and if both parents have a short muzzle you can be 100 percent sure the offspring will have a short muzzle. So I guess I stand by my statement of the apple not falling far from the tree.

LOL, somebody save me from myself because I may be saying more than I know. But, not all traits are the result of a single gene, be it dominant or recessive. Some traits are polygenetic, some are sex linked and there are other characteristics of genes that make it not so clear cut.

I don't know if the foreface is a from a single gene...it may be. The only point I'm trying to make is that not all recessive traits follow suit like the pie-bald gene, which we're all more familiar with (as in 2 partis bred together will only produce partis).

Like in the case of coat texture. All the characteristics of an ideal Yorkie coat are from recessive genes. But it wouldn't be true at all to say that you will get 100% silky coats so long as you bred 2 dogs with a silky coat together.
