And what do you consider an astronomical price to be? What sites did you see this on - exactly? I have seen astronomical prices... but not one was from a show breeder. Every astronomical price I saw was on a site owned by a puppy broker or a tiny specialist or a breeder of rare colored Yorkies! Did you happen to ask them why they charged such astronomical prices? Never mind.... I'm sure they must have said "because they can"! |

you ask where i found these prices as if it can't be so, but then you go on to say, "every astronomical price i saw..." which means you are aware that it happens. all i said is you simply have to do a google search to see they are being sold for astronomical prices. i didn't say every dog is overpriced or that every breeder is doing it - i simply said to the poster that mentioned "we" (as in breeders) would be charging astronomical prices if show fees, etc. were factored in - to which i reponded that there ARE breeders doing that and factoring that in - or as you said - doing it because they CAN! on another note (kinda) i don't feel as though someone purchasing a puppy should be responsible for reimbursing for the showing of another dog. and before it goes there - i didn't say you said that they should - i'm simply stating that i don't think it's right. |
LuvMyPuppE, I don't think cj125 was questioning that you've seen high prices - I think she was just saying that if you list specific places, you'll find that it's disreputable breeders. |

Some excellent replies here buy a few excellent breeders. Bottom line is, buy from the best. I want one from someone that would drive me nuts with questions, and ask a ffair price, especially since I now know that they do it for the betterment of the breed, the love of it, and not for the money. It appears to be a tax loss. With that, I had best hit the rack. Ralph the Rack Monster is calling....besides, I am mentally spent from another thread. What was that one about? Out |

i also wouldn't purchase a pet from a breeder who didn't expect me to drive them nuts with questions. |

The part of the conversation that you're twisting up is the part where Mardelin was telling you that if she was to add up everything that she put into her dogs that her pups would have to be sold for a lot of money. following me? You replied with you can google to find ads for dogs for a lot of money so someone is charging a lot for them. She told you that it wasn't her - she doesn't make any money off of her dogs. I said look at where you saw those prices. It was on sites that had micro, mini, tiny, teenie weenie, rare, mass produced puppies on it! I never said I couldn't find any places that sold their puppies for astronomical prices. Obviously, if I knew where the prices were at - then I've seen them. You seem to have a pattern going on here. You keep picking words or phrases to twist and turn so that you can redirect another question to keep this thing going in circles. Which is just a game. Psych 101. If you really just had questions about the costs involved in breeding and how you think it's passed down to the consumer - then your questions have been answered. I think everyone has been very polite and extremely patient with your questions. If you have a sincere quest for knowledge - then ask on... but if you just want to spar - then move on. In order to learn - you first have to listen. |

btw, thanks for the responses about the docking/clipping. i don't think it's an absurd question because it varies by breed. when you adopt a pet there is a clause in the contract stating this can not be done. otherwise, it is often done depending on the breed. i was curious as to the reasoning/requirements of this breed. it was a simple question with a simple answer. we've moved on. at least i have. |
You know what this board needs right now? A frank, open discussion on the pros and cons of tail docking. Come on! Everything has been so quiet around here lately. Let's some blood pumping. ;) |
