I would have to see your girl's pedigree to understand what you are trying to do. Sorry - just a bit confusing since I do not know your pedigrees. |

One other thing I noticed is the spelling. My ped, (from a ped.service) has the kennel listed as Carneal in one spot and Carameal in another. I knew one of them (Carameal) was a typo but now I see both are. There are also some Estago dogs in the ped. but I'm assuming it's supposed to be Estugo. |

I really didn't have any show aspirations in the beginning but now I see it as the obvious next step. I'm really weak on grooming and have no handling experience. Fortunately, I've recently met a groomer that has grooming, handling and judging experience in Yorkies. I'm hoping to begin working with him with one of the pups I now have, if one has potential, to gain the experience. |

Hey, you are not too far from me. Southaven is coming up in June! I was thinking of doing this one. |
Tina, I realize I came to the party late, but hope I'm not too old getting started. With the pups only being 7 weeks, it will be a little while yet. I'm hoping for one with real potential, but will probably go through the paces with one anyway, just for the experience. Any points will just be lagniappe. This is looking to be a busy year for me. I'm getting some re-modeling done on the house, with me doing the work, so I won't be doing much travel. I'm on the MS Coast (Gulfport) and will likely keep it within a hundred mile radius. That still includes Mobile, New Orleans and Pensacola so maybe there'll be some venues available this fall. I have been bitten by the bug, though. I mean, how can you not be when confronted with these little beauties? It's kind of an obligation to the breed, the way I see it. I actually would have never had any real goals unless I had something worth pursuing them with. Now that I have what I feel is something, the question asks itself..."well, what are you going to do now?", so I am surrendering to the breed :D. |

How close is "line breeding"? Is that like first cousins? |
good conversation about why females cost more than males - even with limited registration. gives a little insight to the breeders who say money isn't a factor (and then sell females for more $$). |

Hey, I saw your post about you thinking of getting an electric fence so your yorkie can go out whenever it wants too. I hope you never let it go out unattended if you do decide to get one. Yorkies are just too small. Between coyotes and hawks - not an option for me, besides the electric shock it would get. I think you are new to yorkies and just trying to figure it all out. Just remember that what you may experienced with getting your yorkie is not what it can be for everyone. I think there are some really good people on here and with a lot of experience and really do care for their yorkies and the breed. I sense a sour note in your posts and just wanted to make sure you knew that there are good people too. The main thing is to educate and to help, so we can help our dogs and the breed. Have a good day. :) |

page 63: " The object of linebreeding is to accumulate the genetic contributions of one outstanding ancestor, and this ancestor becomes the paramount importance." Notice it states Outstanding acestor. If one is going to linebreed - be sure it is of excellent quality (genetically and physically) - outstanding! Linebreeding then to a poor specimen can only produce poor quality puppies. In her book she gives examples of different breedings with specific pedigrees and the dogs. |
This thread has been very interesting and I hope many newbies read this thread and learn from it! WTG guys for being very informative and keeping it civil :) Donna |

I went back and read through and really don't see any insight as you mention. I guess people find what they want to, and if they're looking for a twig to hang their hat on.... You need to remember that 'breeders' aren't some uniform group. We don't all move in lockstep so blankets statements are useless and misleading. You've gotten answers here from some very accomplished breeders, yet you still want to prod and stir the pot. You seem to be hung up on the male/female pricing and keep on about females costing more. You could just as easily ask why do males cost less and that might be a more fair question. I know that I've heard from many about the hassles of dealing with a boy in the house (the peeing thing) and feel that a girl is just 'easier' to deal with. That has nothing to do with breeding but is likely a big reason that, for some, girls are preferred to boys. |
