No offence anyone, but I am soooo very tired of multiple people lecturing people on using the term teacup. If a newbie posts and uses the word, then only one person needs to politely correct them. It really seems that every thread I read that starts with Hi I'm New Here - there are way too people attacking the newbie. It happened to me. Its happened alot recently. Give these people a chance to learn before you attack them, please. I love you guys, you have all helped me out alot, and I want to stay here, but I want to read happy stuff, not stuff about newbies getting attacked on their first post.

Go ahead and attack me. And by the way, I had a teacup. He was amazing. I will continue to use the word teacup in my own house hold because that is how we always refered to Hunter as. However, I will never buy a yorkie from a breeder that advertises Teacup, but I'm still using the word. I have learned something here.

Which posts did you see as attacking? I thought we were just talking among ourselves. I don't mind it when a pet owner uses the term teacup, it's when a breeder uses the term teacup I get suspicious. Glad you have learned this, and I hope you share this information with others, (without attacking! )

If one person post an objection to the term, and no one else does, then it is just one persons opinion. If many people reiterate the fact, in a nice way of course, like they have done here, then the person will realize that it is more than just one persons opinion, it is the general consensus.

Call your dog what ever you want, but the message here was not about, "what one wants to call their dog', but rather that a reputable breeder does not advertise "teacup yorkies" so if you see someone advertisng them, it is wise to avoid them.

So if they want a smaller size yorkie, from a reputable breeder, they will have to do more than just look for people advertising teacups.

Everyone was being very helpful and very nice and giving very good advice, and then you cme on here wanting to make an issue out of it, saying you intend to keep calling yours da teacup. WHY???

I didn't see any post that were in the least bit "attacking." I thought they were quite informative and offered some very good suggestion to the OP in regards to how to go about getting a smaller sized dog whilst avoiding shady breeders.

Who cares if more than one person posts something similar...EXPECIALLY when the posts are not rude. I am more apt to listen to 10 people saying something similar than just one person saying it.

Would you consider getting a 4 pound yorkie? It's only one pound bigger and fits the "breed standard." Generally speaking smaller yorkies often have much more health problems. Good luck on your puppy search

I have a 4 pounder here, that is perfectly healthy. In the beginning I was holding onto her so that she could reach 2 pounds.....if she didn't she was going to be placed (not sold) in an approved home. I won't sell heartache, but will place these wee ones in homes that know how to handle tinies and know of the possibility that additional vet bills can be incurred. However, she did begin growing and had all the attributes I wanted and I was hoping she'd make it....but, at 7 months she's so fine boned.

The breed standard states not to exceed 7 pounds.....Remember it is there for a guideline to what breeder/exhibitors want to achieve. However, there are other things we look at too, not just weight.....

A 3lb dog would fit the breed standard as well. There is no 4 lb weight minimum. Beside the point though...

I have a 2 1/2 pounder and he scares the snot out of me sometimes. I wish for anything he'd gotten bigger.

The word 'teacup' is really only a word to me. you do have those breeders who call them teacup in upping the price. but there are many breeders who uses the word 'teacup' just as others would call then tinies, runt etc . and they do sell theirs the same as the others. some times a pup or two will come out smaller.
now I have a 2 lb 6 month old female and I call her tiny. and Im hoping she puts on a few lbs. I also have a 4 lb boy who to me is also tiny.

just take your time in finding another tinie and make sure the breeder is not trying to breed for tinies. I wouldn't worry about the word 'teacup' to much unless they are asking a crazy price for it then the other litter mates.

Hello and welcome to YT! I am so sorry for the lose of your little one at such a young age. You have been given great advice regarding adding a new pup to your home. There are a lot of unscrupulous breeders just looking to take your money by selling you a puppy as a teacup Yorkie. As you can see there are not different categories of Yorkies but a large range in size/weight to the breed that either fit the breed standard or even exceed the standard. Stick around and you will be amazed at the wealth of knowledge that this forum holds.

I don't believe anyone has asked and I surely would not want to upset you regarding the pup you just lost. I am curious what was the cause of such a very your pup passing away. My oldest of my 3 will be turning 1 next month and I cannot imagine losing her at such a young age.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your baby. I hope you find the your new baby soon. Bailey is 16 weeks old and and has finally reached 2 lbs. I am hoping we can get to 4 lbs. She scares me to death all the time. I am so afraid someone will step on her. I ask everyone that comes in my house do what I call the Yorkie shuffel.

I so agree, took me forever to get Shay to stay at 2.5...now he goes from 2.8-3.0 (okay with harness and sweater..lol) and sometimes he scares the snot out of me tooo.....I wish for 4 pounds!!!

god i didnt think penny would ever make it past 2.4 lbs i hated it she was so tiny i could pick her up one handed with my fingertips overlapping each other now at 4 months ( on aprils first ) she is 3.5 lbs and the difference it makes is AMAZING shes way more active and healthy but im holding out for 5 lbs...grow baby grow
