Yorkie Yakker | My male is NOT interested in mating... :( This past weekend we tried to breed my male Yorkie, we had the bitch come to us and when they came in contact with each other... neither one of them seemed interested. I'm not sure if it was my dog or the bitch. What do I need to do to get my male interested? The breeder that I got Bronx from said that he may be gay? Is that even a possibility. Please Help!!

| First off, Welcome to YT!!! There are tons and tons of threads dedicated to people who are considering breeding. I suggest a quick search and read up on everything. Then there are a few questions you have to ask yourself: -What are my reasons for breeding? Are they noble or are they selfish ones? -Is my boy healthy? -Does he have phenomenal qualities that the Yorkshire Terrier breed can benefit from? -Do I have the $$ to do all the proper genetic testing that is required to produce happy healthy pups? -Has he been tested for STD's? -Has the bitch been tested for the same genetic soundness and STD's? -Am I ready for the possibility of losing my little boy to him running away to find a bitch in heat? -Am I ready to have a boy that will enjoy marking everything more than he does now? I know there are more things you need to ask yourself, but I'm not a breeder and I answered no to ALL the questions, so my boy is neutered. If you already answered yes to all the questions, then ignore my post and wait for an experienced breeder to come along and give advice.

| My thoughts on this subject...I have owned many stud dogs, when given the choice of a bitch in standing heat and another male dog..100% choose the bitch. The breeder made an ignorant statement IMO... I would lean more to the idea your male is pet minded, not stud minded...neuter him and enjoy him. |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | What day are you on? Has he breed before? I know my first male it took a few females to figure it out. Then he would not touch them until around day 14. I always thought I was going to miss it but he knew when she was ready and she always had pups. I know I was putting pressure on him and I think he picked up on that also.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think you made the best decision, and I love the name you've chosen for him! He can still be your little stud!

LOL thanks!! My some of my friends and family said the name is too BIG for him, since he's only 2.9lbs.. but I'm from New York, living in Cali now and I thought it was perfect for him.. he has the BIGGEST personality!!

We were I believe on day 12 or 13...He's never bred before. A lot of people were telling me it might take him a while to figure it out. But not sure if I want to try again.. I got pretty scared of all the risks!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | She said on another thread that she didn't really want to breed him, but the breeder that she got him from, lowered the price if she could use him as a stud.

Yorkie Yakker | He was about 7 months in the pictures... hes very tiny. He was a miracle boy! Almost didn't make it... the other pups in the litter died!! I guess that's why I don't want to do anything that will hurt him in the long wrong!! I love him to pieces!!

| That's just so sad. I feel bad for all the other pups in your babie's litter. If you don't mind me asking, what caused all the other pups to pass?
