And those that aren't breeders have taken an interest in learning as much as they can about the breed.

New Breeder, well let me tell you a little story that is happening RIGHT NOW...
a lady friend has a little jack russell we met while I was walking my girls and my son was walking his taffy, we talked for a while and became sort of friends, we live about 5 streets appart she had just moved into our neighborhood,we went to lunch and tea a few times, and we talked about breeding and stuff, she loved Chanel's pups and told me that she would like to breed her girl annie, I THOUGHT I talked her out of it, well with the holidays. my doll shop, the puppies and life in general we lost touch for a while, I did send her a xmas card and called her for new years, she NEVER mention Annie was pregnant.. Well, small world we live in, my son called me about 3am from the emergency clinic he works at this morning, to ask me if i can foster a VERY pregnant dog that was having a bit of green discharge and needs to be care for, the owner is TOO scared to deal with the situation.. before I could say yes or not, my son puts Annabelle on the phone, she was crying and going ON, and ON, on how she would DIE if something happend to Annie, I TOLD HER SO... anyways Annie is due anyday and SHE IS HERE in my home, she droped her before she went to work. so long story short I am a surrogate mommy to Annie, until she whelps, she is on antibiotics, doc thinks she passed a dead pup last night while in a walk, but found 3 more live pups in the sonogram. Annie is shy and quiet, even tho she lights up when she sees me, she has no fever and is acting normal under the circumstances.
Good thing I still had the pen setup in my dressing room..LOL
I feel this are the situations that show that BREEDING is NOT for everyone, specially if you don't have experience with it. I am kind of mad at Annabelle but I do feel so sad for Annie, she is such a cute girl.. she is only 1.5 years old..
if I can I would take a picture, but if I see that she gets stressed I won't.
well all we can do now is give her the medications and hope for the best.
to add a bit more, this girl is NOW in labor, her temp just drop to 98.8 she was 100.2 at 8am this morning when her MOM droped her off, This little dog can die from her mom wanting to breed her once. are you prepared for that to happen to your girl, this woman did not had met me, this lady would had to take days off work, she is a single parent,so I KNOW that days off work would not be done, the Dog would be home alone and if anything happen the dog would die ALONE.. sadly it happens from people wanting to BREED ONCE... oh and by the way YES I do breed and my daughter starting to show.

Sorry if my reply seemed harsh - I was trying to reply when I got interrupted and I finished too quickly.

There are MANY other factors that cause pups to wind up in shelters - I didn't mean to imply this is the sole cause. However I do feel strongly that this group of "breeders" certainly contributes to the problem.

I'm not a breeder, but just someone who has been reading the threads at Yorkietalk for several years, I can tell you I have read so many stories of heartbreak, even experienced breeders often run into difficulties, but when this happens to someone who really hasn't researched the subject thoroughly, they tend to blame themselves for the loss of the mother or puppies. If you lose your beloved dog, and know it was your fault because you have not researched thoroughly, the pain is often unbearable. So many experienced breeders say they are scared every single time they breed, and this should tell you to not take the breeding lightly. If you decide to breed your little girl, it's very important to read everything you can on the subject. You have to be prepared for all emergencies. She is depending on you to make her decisions wisely. I agree with the others, don't breed a dog under 5 pounds, she could be the smallest of a line, and her puppies could be huge, and too big for her to deliver, that's why experienced breeders study the line, on all sides. Just FYI, The first time I breed my Zoey (weighing 6 pounds) she only had 2 puppies, 1 whom was too large to deliver. I had to take her to the vet to deliver the 2nd... It's a heartbreaking thing to lose a puppy, not to mention losing lil mom. I myself was a first time breeder and I did LOTS of reading, learning,worring,and spent lots of money to get that one little male here... I have breed her since and TRUST me, it was the last... My nerves can't take it... She means way to much to me!!! I would deff. not breed her to a larger yorkie... Good luck!!!

It's scarey enough when one is prepared.....all the tests performed, all the equipment, meds ready and one has experience......but, to decide to breed without preparing one's self to the fullest, without a mentor.....you are risking your female and the pups even further.

I am sorry to tell you and know you have hopes - But your girl it too small to be bred. If we, experienced breeders, were not honest and something - which is a high risk due to her size alone and being a yorkie - happened to her we would feel so bad. Our job is to be honest, since you asked, and to inform you. I know sometimes things do not work out the way we want it to. I know you bought her and love her and would just love to have some of her pups bouncing around the house - But this cannot happen. She is just too small. The chances are you would loose her and then how would you feel especially knowing that we warned you.
Breeding her only once could kill her. If you really love her - just understand and accept it for her sake. Two words come to mind with your girl and her size - c-section and pop!

This past weekend we tried to breed my male Yorkie, we had the bitch come to us and when they came in contact with each other... neither one of them seemed interested. I'm not sure if it was my dog or the bitch. What do I need to do to get my male interested? The breeder that I got Bronx from said that he may be gay? Is that even a possibility. Please Help!!

Lol, I don't think so, maybe he knows something you don't know? Anyway, you will probably have more luck writing your own thread. I think you really need to read more about breeding if you don't know the answer to this. For example, did you know your dog can catch an STD, even if it's the first time for both? Have your dogs been tested for genetic problems? By the way, there's a good chance your dog's personality will change once you breed him, and you will have much more problems with marking. People were always asking me to stud Joey, I'm so glad I didn't.

I really don't want to breed Bronx, but the breeder I got him from sold him to me for half the price and said that she would want to stud him once when he was old enough...so i was really doing it for her.

How old is he? Has he been checked to see if he has genetic problems, does he have any signs of LP? Good breeders could tell you more of the tests that should be preformed. She sounds like a really unethical breeder, she wants you to care and feed her breeding dog. I would pay her the money rather than allow her to use my dog as a stud. There are many free and low cost spay and neuter clinics all over the country. You will save a bundle in cleaning bills. Once he mates he will want to mate over and over, unneutered dogs are much more likely to die from injures cause by car accidents than any other thing. They can smell a bitch in heat over 10 miles away, and this can make them very agitated. You are also much more likely to have behavioral problems. I hope you don't let this person take advantage of your naivety.
