IDK why people can't adopt yorkies. There are so many that could use a loving home!

Not everyone is lucky enough as you to adopt a cutie like the one in your avatar. I for one tried to adopt first and was turned down by all because at the time I had two children under 10! Some get turned down because they don't have a fenced yard! So now you know why some people can not adopt

You have to be very careful buying online there are alot of scams and bad breeders. The best scenerio is to buy from someone locally where you can visit the breeders home. If you dont do that you cant say for sure your not buying from a puppymill or byb

Aww thats true, they did ask a lot of questions on the application. I was actually surprised that they accepted me being that I live in manhattan.

I can see why its not necessarily as easy to be able to adopt. Before I found the rescue I adopted from I couldn't find a good breeder that I could trust to not take part in unethical practices.

Good breeders also make it hard to adopt. The breeder wants to ensure that this is permanent home for the puppy, and the buyers no exactly what they are doing. Too many puppy buyers are clueless when it comes to pet ownership, and you know they haven’t found a good breeder.

Tried, in Europe Americans in the military are known for dumping their dogs/cats before they go to their next assignment, thus adoption agencies (local) wouldn't adopt to me.

I really wish more people could adopt yorkies, unfortunately too many people (the irresponsible ones) ruin it for the rest of us.

I think it's a matter of finding the right rescue to adopt from. On paper, I shouldn't have been able to either as I had a child under 10 and no fenced yard. It took a bit of work, but I found two that didn't write me off because of either of those things.

Just like finding a good breeder takes time, so does finding the right rescue.

I realize that this thread started a while ago, but I'm in the process of getting a little sister for my Yorkie girl who's two. I found a breeder, but you just never know. I did go to www.petfinder.com to see if I could adopt one, but not one in my area. A breeder I found only has 2-3 litters a year to sell. She mainly runs a dog grooming business. She has one female left. Because she sells both AKC and CKC registered puppies, it has been suggested I not buy from her.

I bought my Yorkie I have now from a breeder that was referred by the local kennel club. My puppy was also AKC registered and came with a health guarantee and papers. Within a year, she needed double knee surgery. As it turns out, once my Yorkie's vet got involved, my Yorkie wasn't the first of one of her dogs to have knee trouble, but she said it wasn't a covered condition. She eventually offered to take my Yorkie back, but by then I had fallen in love with her. Plus, what was the breeder going to do with her? I kept my girl, but the breeder did end up giving me another Yorkie girl from different parents. I gave her to my mom and dad and they love her. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you never really can tell with a breeder. I mean, here was one that came recommended and my puppy still had over $2000 in vet bills within a year.

While I'm nervous about buying another Yorkie, I'm excited at the same time. Again, you can never tell.
