This is the first time that I have given the raspberry syrup. I started two weeks before her due date. I think it helped with the fast delivery. 4puppies in one hour. I will definitely give it in the future. I just forgot to give it to her after she whelped.

I am a firm beleiver of red rabsberry leaf tea after whelping, IT WORKS..
glad to hear is out and she is doing well, LOVE the puppies one day I would love to buy one as a pet for ME to enjoy...:):)

We are relaying experience..I have literally pulled out dozens in mine and others I have helped.
When you see the strings, the placenta is rarely attached in the uterus..it is somewhere in the canal and ready to be removed.
But for anyone unexperinced..please go to the vet...
Most experinced breeders can tell by feeling where it is and how much pressure to apply...

If ever the raspberry syrup does not work, I will try. I just did not want to injur her.

So much to learn. I appreiate all of the input. never know when it might come in handy. In fact I would not hsve even had the raspberry syrup if it hsd not been for Mardelins posts.

As we all know..a retained placenta is a dead, rotting piece of body tissue. If I can see a portion of placenta and grab it with a cloth..it is otta there.
Also..I don't understand why you would need contractions if the placenta was already on it's way out? If it is presenting a portion of itself at the opening of the vulva, then the uterus has done it's job and pushed it to through the cervix opening to expel it. The mother will usually grab these same strings and pull it out herself, ripping it to shreds as she does. I prefer to help her and get it out in one piece. I have pulled out plenty and the result was always...no more placenta...no infections. No need for chemicals the next day either.

With that said..every breeder has their own opinions, and should do what is best for their girl and their own situation. Just stating what works for me and the incredible breeders I learned from.

Either way..very happy to hear it is gone.

For years I used Raspberry pills from the UK..very good.

I don't understand it either. Why she did not work to get it out. maybe she was just too tired. I took a paper towel and tugged at it, but it did not want to come easy and she seemed uncomfortable so I was not sure if I should be pulling it.

Then Carmen in NJ said to give her the raspberry. I did not think to give it to her after she was finished whelping. But that seemed to do the trick, or maybe it was because of me pulling at it, she decided to pull it out herself.

Lots of information to have for next time.

I agree, I am always learning new things here, I do talk them over with my mentor because it takes a lot of experience to do some things and I do not feel qualified to do them or tell people to do them. breeding is an ever learning experience.

Every litter seems to bring new challenges. It's good to read about these things ahead of time.

Whats Raspberry tea leaf or syrup? Where do you get it? This is the first time Ive ever heard of using it for pregnant or whelping dogs.

There is several brands/places you can purchase it; one being a health food store. Another is through Revivalanimal.com; a product specifically for canines, in the form of a syrup.

Ohh ok I see. I wasnt sure if it was actually tea or specifically made for dogs. Thanks for your reply.
