Help!!! Im am new to this whole breeding thing. I have a ten month old silky terrier who isnt fixed and who i was planning on getting fixed. Well I think she has started going into heat but im not sure. My male will NOT leave her alone and to me thats a pretty big sign. Anyways i lef ther outside not knowing if she was officialy in heat or not and apparently my male got to her. I dont know if he actually bred with her but I think he might of. If he did this was an accidental breeding. What on earth do I do? How do i tell if she is pregnant??:confused: |
Since you were planning on getting her fixed then you need to go ahead and get her fixed. Please call you vet and ask him if he prefers to do it now or in a few weeks after she is out of heat. In the meantime you have to keep the male away from her. Good luck. |
i dont have the money right now thats my problem. she isnt showing any signs of being in heat so how cna i exactly tell she is in heat |

Reproduction, The Heat Cycle, Signs of Heat In the mean time...keep her seperated from your male and make that appointment to have her spayed, or him neutered..or both!! |
thank you and yes i will get them both done! unless you know what you are doing you shouldnt breed. But i wanna get them both done! |

what a confusion... You do not have many options, a pregnancy does not show up until 40 to 45 days after the mating ... What kind of male do you have that possible bred to her? |
her dad which is also a silky terrier. this wasnt supposed to happen period |

I see... You do not have many options. If you spay her right away it seems to be your best bet. Check about "friends of animals" in your area, a spay through their program only cost 94.00 If you wait and see... and she comes out pregnant... well... so many possibilities. Not the best thing to breed father to daughter to begin with ... if all goes well... great ! What if you happen to have a singleton and he is huge... do not pass and you need a C-section????? It is sure a messy situation. I guess you should try your best option before the "wait and see" option is your only one dont you think? XOXO |
my vet will charge me 100 dollars for her spay. this was a complete accident i understand the serinious of it and how bad this can be. Ive done m research on c-sections and everything else so i knwo the possibilities. her dad is much smaller than her and her mom had no problems during delivery so everything should go fine. but im not gonna do the wait and see game with this if i can get her spayed i will. but all in all i cant affrord this and in all honesty i cant afford her spay so im gonna do what i have to but if i can avoid the wait and see game im going to. and yes i bred my male with a female and got another female i dont like males they are to much of a hassel with marking territory and stuff |

You need to research and see what is best for you and your dogs. Have you considering selling the boy on a neuter contract so you can use the money to get your girl fixed and everyone will leave a healthy happy life! It may be a harsh solution... maybe not??? Think of all your possibilities. If you keep your female and she delivers or not ... if she did not get preggo... she will mark too. Unspayed females can become territorial and have mood swings sometimes worse than males ! Your vet cost for spay is so low... i am not sure how far we are ... but here a 100.00 is only a vet visit for for shots... well basic puppy shots. I would still call friends of animals and local ASPCA and ask what you options are. You may even find a cheaper way to get both of them fixed and be able to do it rather sooner than later. You still have some things to go after. XOXO |

100$ is not that much, I wish my vet did a spay for 100$. Can't you see if you can work out a payment plan or see if you can borrow 100$ from someone ? |
06-01-2009, 12:10 PM :icon5: I have an 11 week old female silky terrier My question is when do females usually go into their first heat cycle? And how old do they have to be before you can breed them? And can i breed the father with the daughter as long as i know the pedigree? Are you sure this was an accident since you were inquiring about this? And I don't even think your pup is old enough to be bred! |
I see we are very far from each other... vet care here is so much more than in your area. well... give it a shot, call these places and see what you find and keep posting it here, maybe start a thread about inexpensive spay neuter in your area? You will get help if you ask for it ! XOXO |

This doesn't look like an accident! She asked if she could breed the father to the daughter back in June. She should of been able to save 100$ since then to spay the dog if that was her plan! |

You posted while i was checking her location... her dog is too young and we know what it means... a HUGE possibility of a Csection... If she is having a hard time paying 100 for the spay... imagine 500.00 for a surgery like c-section, well assuming that it cost a fraction of what would cost here. You mentioned that you wish your vet would spay for 100.00? Have you look into the "friends of animals" in your area? The way it works you buy the certificate from them and bring to a provider of your choice. There are many here in my area. You need to call the provider ahead and check for any possible extra expense. Good word to be passed around ! XOXO |
Wow...interesting stuff. Having your girl spayed and not taking the chance would be the best option for your dog. If you cannot afford to give your dog the medical attention they need, then place them with someone who can. We all get into financial binds from time to time, but it does not justify neglecting to provide for our dogs the medical care they need. You think a spay is 'too expensive?' It's NOTHING compared to the expenses you are about to be faced with if she IS preggers...and that's IF she doesn't experience any complications. Given your past inquiries that others have posted, and your efforts to justify the situation now, it seems as if you have your mind made up in regards to what you plan to do here. Which leaves me wondering...exactly what information are you even looking for? |

I was just saying I wish the vets around here cost that much. I am in Canada, we don't have any programs. My vet is spaying Lola for 300$ |

I would assume shes trying to figure out how to find out if she IS pregnant |

So sorry ... i seem to answer before checking people's location dont I? :D bad me..... Well, i have been to Canada one, only across the border on Niagara, and was there only for 6 hours before i had to rush back as my dad got sick... I plan to go back for a decent visit ! XOXO |

It's nice here, I am in the most Southern part of Ontario, but still too cold for my liking ;) |

Now, a male can attempt to breed a female and he can hump her while she is stilling down and the male can get an erection but not actually breed the female. You have several options at this point. If she is early in her heat cycle you can keep them separated and don't let them breed and pray he did not breed her already. You can then get her spayed as soon as possible but if she is indeed pregnant then you will be faced with the huge cost of raising a litter and the possibility of birthing problems and possibly defective puppies since it was an inbreeding. If you are not in a position to devote lots of time and money to raising a litter then you should try to get her spay if at all possible. The choice is yours. I do hope everything turns out well for you and your girl. |
I read some of your earlier posts from this past summer and you have already been given some excellent advice so I really don't know what you are asking here. If you are looking for approval on an open public forum, consisting entirely of dog lovers, it is not likely that you are going to find it. Is this the same dog that has bilateral luxating patellas and hip dysplasia. Is this the same female as the 8 week old puppy that you could not afford to take to the vet. Health problems and no money and now the little girl is bred to her father. The advice you have been given to spay or neuter has obviously fallen on deaf ears, more than likely because you actually wanted to breed this little girl to her father. One of your previous posts hinted that people needed to do this for a living during this bad economy. All the advise you can receive will do nothing, because obviously you can and will in the end, do as you like. I can only hope that your dogs and your puppies, if any, will be ok. |
I know you said money is an issue, so it might be worth it to get it done on credit (they have pet credit cards) to prevent any crazy expenses you'll incur if she is pregnant. Sorry you're in such a bad situation. Good luck! They should make doggie pregnancy tests where you just pee on a stick like for humans:) |

It does seems "convenient." What happens if a dog is imbreed? I'm assuming there will likely be large vet fees because they won't be healthy. I saw on the beginning of this thread that it can be done in certain pedigree's, but chances are this is not one of the cases. |
Wow! People continue to amaze me everyday. I feel real bad for the dogs. |
 put a $100 spay in one hand and a litter of inbred pups sired by a father who ALREADY has health issues--which one is heavier??? Please do not allow your dogs to breed sick puppies!!!! I beg you-please. Who is going to come up with the money to raise those puppies??? Its your responsibility to do the right thing here. Not only is it wrong to breed these dogs, but its really even more wrong being that you cant pay for a simple spay now and who is going to pay for the care of the puppies?!?!?! Heck an x-ray, dew claws, tail dockings, whelping supplies and a vet check costs more than a spay. Whats sad is I read your other posts too and you've already got it in your mind to breed them.:sickie: |
It is quite possible this was an accident. Just because a person, who is new and interested in learning about breeding, asks a question, that does not necessarily mean they intend to do what they asked about. I am sure she has been on YT long enough to know that you don't intentionally breed a female on her first heat and one with health issues. It takes a lot of guts to come on YT and admit you made a mistake and ask for advise. I just pray that she is able to get help for her silky. |
