♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | ![]() Well, it is not good news. At first the neurologist was cautiously optimistic, though he did note some neurological deficiencies, but after the ultrasound, the news is worse than I could have imagined. Her brain never formed fully to begin with. She does have hydrocephalus, but that is because she only has 10 % of her brain tissue - 90% of the interior of her skull is fluid. There is no treatment, there are no options. She will only degenerate. I am more than crushed. We are taking a little time, but have to say our final good byes to Rose.

| ![]() Ohhh.. I am so sorry. It must be so hard. It was so good of you to take her to a Specialist! Regular vets just do not know everything and there comes a time when a specialist is needed. And I use to work as a vet tech. I know. It is just impossible for a regular vet to know all about all things. Each one has special things they are interest in, but when you need the best - a specialist is needed. My prayers go out to you. |

| ![]() I have a yorkie with the same open fontanel. She is super healthy. I keep a pony tail and cover the spot with her hair. It helps a little however I don't worry about it.

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | ![]() Thank you to everyone for being so kind and sending warm thought our way. I was completely unprepared for this news- I thought the worst-case would be surgery I'd have to take out a loan to pay for. I don't fault my vet at all. Earlier diagnosis wouldn't have changed the outcome. And, to be fair, the neurologist said it was a very a-typical case with the bubble and her level of functioning. Though he did say this is the worst case he's ever seen, based on the ultrasound. I am relieved to know that I only have one choice, I just truly wished it was an easier choice.

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | ![]() The doctor was very clear in his recommendation. It may be 2 days or 2 weeks, but she will begin to have seizures, lose the ability to walk, lose the ability to eat, and eventually lose the ability to breathe. And, though it appears she is showing affection to me (licking, nuzzling, etc), she is really unaware of her surroundings and acting only as a reaction to stimuli. I am going to wait as long as I can, but it would be very selfish of me to make her suffer.

| ![]() These things rip out the breeders heart..I know and so do many others. Your little one does not have a simple open fontanel ...many are of no importance...this baby was born with a severe defect...resulting in a slow deterioation and I am told the pressure on the brain is painful...a super miagrine headache that does not stop... You have done all any breeder can do..my thoughts and prayers are with you...and this baby will go to Yorkie heaven and live forever...this I believe. |

♥ Catherine My Love ♥ Donating Member | ![]() I don't know if anyone has experience reading an ultrasound, but here is the ultrasound print-out of her cranium that they sent home with me. The very small rippled part underneath the dark area is her brain. The dark area is the fluid.
