| DNA Testing - Purebred & Mixed Breed Yorkies I have an adorable yorkiepoo & I want to know which breed yorkie or poodle he's more of - for training & health reasons. I bought "Wisdom Panel Insights" dog DNA test from Petsmart. Right now it's $10 off, I was able to use a $20 coupon I got in the mail. It involved taking two cheek swabs (Winston was not too happy about me sticking something in his mouth that wasn't food) & was painless. I had to mail the swabs back to them & in a few weeks they'll be able to tell me his Significant Breed - atleast 50%, Intermediate Breed - atleast 25% & any Minor Breed - atleast 12.5%. In the brochure it says this info can be used to determine physical & behavior traits since he's a mix. I can't wait to find out the results. I was wondering if other yorkiepoo, morkie & yorkie mixed breed owners would consider this type of testing too? Also, if purebred yorkie owners would test their yorkies to make sure they are purebreds? |

| I realize that as I read their brochure. I'm just curious to know if others consider DNA testing their dogs, not necessarily thru this product. I'm not sure why this was moved to the Breeding/Showing/Traveling Forum. I'm not looking to breed, show or travel with my dog. Just curious about other's opinions on this type of product/service. | I know someone who runs a Mastiff rescue and they get a lot of puppymill dogs. They did testing on the most recent litter they "inheritted". It was kind of cool to learn all of the different breeds that were in them. |

| Kind of off topic...but, my eldest daughter would like to do a DNA swab of her husband to rule out his constant claim of being an American Indian. She said if it comes back that he's Mexican, then he has to promise to never bring it up again...for some reason, he'd rather lay claim to his Indian roots vs his Mexican roots. Oi vey...alright, now back to the regular programing! As for testing any of my girls...I would if it was cheaper. I suspect sometimes that Bella has a little Maltese in her but, I'll never know unless I test.

| I'd like to test Smokey one day... not for any other reason than just to know. I've been told he's a purebred yorkie, but he's so light colored he's almost white, he's huge, floppy eared, and he doesn't have that terrier attitude at all. I know none of that means anything for sure, but I'd just like to see for my own human curiousity.
