| ![]() Are Yorkie babies a little harder to keep alive after they are born? I have a couple friends that breed other breeds and have never had a puppy die or really any problems after the birth. We were just talking about whelping and how they have not had any problems with their litters. One breeds Chihuahua, another Havanese and others breed medium size breeds. I was just wondering.

| ![]() I have been raising yorkies over 13 years and while I have not experienced that many problems but I do know that others have. I feel that the reason we hear of so many problems with yorkie puppies dieing is because there are many novice breeders that really don't know how to properly care for the mom and the pups. Those breeders that breed very small females are likely to have more problems also. I feel that the prenatal care the mom receives has a lot to do with the health of the pups. If you over supplement or under supplement the momma then that could lead to health problems for the puppies. Even the most knowledgeable and careful breeders will eventually encounter problems. Some things are just beyond our control. |
