I have heard that anything over 15 dont breed anything over 25 dont breed. I was just curious what some of you think. We are just devastated. So now we have to make the decision of keeping him or giving him back to the breeder and getting an 8 month old with good bile acid. I guess at least we found out now before we ran a lot more of the other health tests. We should have done the test a long time ago but we kept putting it off. Bummer. Well i am lucky to have such a wonderful mentor who is their to help me with whatever i need. This dog had everything we wanted great topline. lots of coat, great color, amazing movement, so its so hard to do this. But m breeder and i are dedicated to breeding healthy dogs so we have to do it. The replacement pup is great too he's just not my ryder. I have bonded with Ryder since he was 5 weeks old. Visiting him all the time before he was ready to come home. Again this is what happens thought i have to toughen up. Any ways back to bile acids any input and information i would love. I am always trying to learn as much as possible and gain new insight so any opinons would be great. |
Unfortunately I wouldn't breed with that post number. I would, however, get a Protein C test just to rule out shunt although usually over a 100 indicates shunt. I would also in a month run another BAT after the protein C test. Anything over 25 I wouldn't breed but I would do a consult with Dr. Center herself. She is a wealth of knowledge on this subject. Even with good BAT's there is still no guarantee of NOT getting shunts because they still do not know where it comes from. Until a genetic marker is found all we can do is BAT test and do all the other necessary tests to insure a healthy dog.
I personally wouldn't give the dog back if you are already attached. I would neuter and keep as a pet but of course that is me LOL...if I have fallen in love no way I could give them up. I guess that's why I have too many pet yorkies at my house LOL...
Good luck and keep us posted.
