Yes but you can do your research before the female is pregnant or has a litter. I have never had a litter and I know a great deal of information about breeding and health issues with these dogs. More than most new breeders who come on after the fact and start asking questions.

I do not understand why people have to experiment with live animals.

And yes, JeanieK, no one was born knowing how to breed Yorkies, as I think we can all agree. But that is not an excuse for jumping into it blindly and trying to pick up things as you encounter problems :thumbdown rather than taking the time to properly prepare and learn first.:thumbup: That is the difference--people who start out well prepared and educated :thumbup: and people who just jump right in and can only pray they get lucky and that nothing goes wrong. :thumbdown

Again, same conversation; people repeating what others have done and expecting a different outcome. It doesn't happen.

There will always be those that Post expecting affirmation of what they are doing, and when it's not given, those expecting affirmationwill respond to any advice as bashing.......So, in the end why continue on with the conversation, it only provokes heated discussions. In the end the dogs are the ones that suffer and of course the unsuspecting public.

It would be like asking one's husband if what you're wearing looks OK, then getting mad if he says 'no.' :P

Agreed, especially on an open forum such as YT. There are those that are here that have a passion for the breed and I'm not saying that each and everyone doesn't love their dogs.......but, geez this is 2009 soon to be 2010....so much information out there to easily access to educate yourselfs with. This isn't 1950, things have evolved.

Wow. You've been given some incredibly heart breaking statistics and information and all you can say is lighten up? :eek: This information is exactly why the animal loving members of YT CAN'T 'lighten up'.

My suggestion is to move on....what's done is done. If memory serves me, discussions were conducted, advice was given prior to the female being bred. Information was given, the choice was made to breed her anyway........

I agree, and I would have been scared to death to go into it without first educating myself.

But perhaps the entire experience has shown him how little he actually does know.

I think a lot of people just think, heck animals have been doing this on their own for years, what's the big deal. Then halfway through they realize they know nothing about it.

Hopefully he will continue to ask questions and learn.

I agree, see my previous post.

But just because he does not want to be told that his dog is second class, does not mean he is not open to learning.

If he is sticking around through all of this, I think he wants to learn about the breeding and as far as the YTCA standard, well you all know my thoughts on that.

The ones that don't want to learn will ask a question and immediately upon getting an answer they will begin to argue the point. And then dissappear.

He is still here, therefor we still have the opportunity to educate.

At least he knows how to spell "bred" :D

Although the OP obviously doesn't want to be educated, I still think it's worth putting the information out there since other people read these threads. If just one person listens and reconsiders a decision to breed, then it's worth the time and effort to respond to these posts IMO.

Of course, the definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result........

Information is out there, and even if this person want to be educated, other's may.

As I said communication with the person prior to the breeding of the female obviously didn't take hold.
