my yorkie is prego, got a few questions how long does a pregnancy usually last? my vet told me 63 days, but someone else told me 3 months. i know i have to take the pups to get there tails docked, but when i take them, do i have to take the mommy with them? also exactly how do you go about gettting them registered? thanks!! |

I have my babies docked and duclawed on day 4. some people prefer day 3, I like to wait one more day for the blood to clot better. I dont take my pups out for that, I have my mentor and my son, come to my house and do it here, I am going to dock my next litter myself.. now that I saw it done I know I can do it... I like the clamp and twist method, rather than the cut and stich method the vet's use. but that is just my preference. to register your litter you need the mom's and dad's AKC registration number and you can do it online thru the AKC site. hugs, Carmen in nj |
It takes approximately 63 days from the time of conception, not from the time of the breeding. Most yorkies have their pups anywhere from day 59 to day 65 from the first tie but some can have them sooner and some can go longer, depending on when they conceived. Tails are usually docked on day 4 or 5, depending on the size of the pups. Before I started docking the tails myself, I would always take the momma with me when I took the pups to the vet for tail docking. As for registering the pups, is your momma and sire registered? If they are both registered with AKC I know you can register them online, if they are with a different registry then you need to contact that registry, it should be on their papers. When is you female due? I hope you are doing lots of research on whelping and caring for the momma and babies. There are many things that can go wrong so for the safely and welfare of the momma you really need to be prepared. |
Was this a mistake? How old is your little girl? What size is she? What size is the stud? Is this your very first litter? |
thanks for the replies guys, no this wasnt a mistake, i wanted her to have a litter. she is 2 and a half years old, she was about 5lbs. and this is her first litter. i marked on the calender when her and the stub "mated". she is due any day now, yesturday i noticed she is lactating now, and shes been "nesting" all day today. so i expect it to happen soon. |
Are you prepared? Do you have all the supplies. do you have your vets number in case you need to contact him? Do you know what to expect? Do you know the danger signs? When you need to call the vet? If you have any more questions please ask now, don't wait until it is too late? Do you know what to do if a puppy is not breathing? Do you know how to clamp and cut the cord so it doesn't bleed out? Ask your vet when he prefers to dock the tails. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS YOURSELF. |
yes i am prepared and have everything i need . |

In any event, what is done is done. Do you have a mentor that is going to work with you during the whelp. If not, finding one would be my first suggestion. There is no substitution for having someone with you experienced in the area. You estimate the due date counting 63 days from the first tie with the male. Your vet will be able to take x-rays at about 50 days and give you a good indication regarding if the pups seem small enough for her to free whelp. Search the site and make sure you find out what supplies you will need and get them in advance. Learn what to expect with a routine whelp...how long she should be in hard labor, danger signs to watch for, etc. Talk with your vet about supplementing her calcium afterwards. Best of luck to you! |

I hope you ask more questions, I'm fraid you are not as prepared as you think you are. I wish you the best of luck and hope nothing happens to your girl. Is she doing anything. What day is day 63? |

A female's egg and survive 48 hours. Where male sperm live up to 7 days. |
This is crazy! First the Op doesn't know how often a female goes into heat? Then doesn't know how long is the pregnancy? And now they claim they are prepared??? OMG I hope the mommy and pups don't die. Why do people keep doing this? (That's a hypothetical question, I know why.) Bet the dogs aren't even up to standard. Still waiting to hear back from you OP. When's day 63? |
hey guys, my girl gave birth to 2 healthy, beautfiul puppies last night. 1 male and 1 femal. yesturday was the 63rd day from the first time i seen her and the stud lock up. so i know she was close. thanks for all the advice guys. |
Congratulations on your new babies. |
This thread/poster concerned me, so when I saw this other thread offering her newborn for sale already I got scared. Is this even allowed on YT (see last post on this thread)? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sou...esburg-ms.html |

To the best of my knowledge, no it's not allowed on YT. :thumbdown And you are not alone--this whole 'scenario' has concerned me as well from the start, for obvious reasons. |

This is why I don't respond much to these threads I get so frustrated. If I see someone that is honest and really needs help because it was a mistake and not a planned pregnancy and they want to have help and then realize to spay right after I will help but UGH I get so frustrated! Donna |
This just make me want to throw up. Please keep these pups with the mom for 12 weeks. They need their mom and she needs them. |
Motives are very clear now.....here to sell pups. |
wait a second here, what are you guys talking about? did i do something wrong by replying to the thread with the person who was looking for a male yorkie around hattiesburg? if i broke a rule or something, i apologize. |

Just FYI it doesn't look good that you have so few posts and then the morning after your girl has pups, you're already offering them up for sale.....appearance is that you're here just to sell puppies. |
if you guys were under the impression that i was going to take the pup from his/her mother before 10 weeks are so, that is not true. i wouldnt ever do anything like that. |
