Is Maya's temperature too low??? **I actually just posted this in a previous thread of mine as a response, but figured I'd get more advice by just creating a new thread that people will be able to see easily.** I just checked her temp again and it read 97.7; I checked a second time to be sure and yes still 97.7. Wow! That's really low, is it too low? I've never heard of a temp. dropping that low. She's not acting any differently (other than the pre-labor signs she's been showing for the past several days). ??? Yikes! Let me give you her temp. history this past week. We started checking on Monday like twice a day, it started at around 100.8 and fluctuated between that and 100.2 until around Wednesday or Thursday when it dropped to around 99.5-99.6. It went between the 99's to 100's until Friday afternoon, when it has stayed between 98.9- 99.4. Now this morning (this is after she ate, mind you), it's the 97.7. Has anyone else had a dog's temp. drop so low before???? |

So yeah, I just checked again. The third time in five minutes and now it's 98.6. ??? I don't know why such a difference, but hopefully it'll remain here. |

Yikes. Okay, will do; makes me wonder if maybe my thermometer was acting up. ??? Right now she's taken a little stuffed toy of hers and is hiding out next to her whelping box in the closet now (not in it). She's seems to be pretty protective of it likes it's one of her babies, it's really strange. I'm guessing her maternal instinct is just kicking in before delivery? Should I take it away? Let her be? Is she about to whelp? |
Could you have taken the temp of her stool? I have done that before. |

I would put her in the box and sit in front of it and try to calm her and convince her to stay in. It sounds like she is definitely in labor. |
Has your girl eaten much food this morning? Low blood sugar would cause her to run a unusually low temperature. You could give he a little Nutri-cal if she is not eating well. I pray you have a safe whelping. |
