You can have a male who is used for stud and a companion all rolled into one..BUT most need to wear belly bands to protect your home. My males had to live separate from my females...because they were REAL stud dogs..they peed on everything including their own bedding, water bowls, eat other and the girls..that is what a well used stud does. They had their own area in my home...own play yard. AKC isn't happy with a breeder who lets males and females live together in groups.
BUT..my situation is very different then a person who only owns one male and has no females around.
I do not place males without neuter agreements (unless selling to a breeder) WHy..because 7 out of 10 times my boy is going become a nuiance to the owner with his marking.

I have tried to remain civil..BUT any vet who thinks it irresponsible to spay/neuter is giving the pet owner very foolish advise..and is just plain ignorant.

When quoting someone elses opinion I most always post the link and credit the person whether I cut and paste or post the link, Kim I think that is my decision. I hope you can respect those of us who decide to let our dogs keep all their god given organs and not put them through the risk, trauma and pain of that surgery which we feel is unnecessary.

It wasn't my first thought, but when you put over 1000.00 into a breed that is perfect just for you, it is nice to know that there is a possibility that you might be able to breed him. Sorry if that wasn't apparent. I love Toby, I am happy with him, and it wouldn't bother me if he didn't breed with anyone, ever.....

Oh, Pat, I hope that I wasn't reading too much into your statement. Emotions are running a little high...but with this statement, it sounds like if a stud dog isn't bred very often it isn't considered a REAL stud dog??? Then what is it?

I'm here because I love reading what the breeders have to say. I rarely post in this section and don't offer advise but do read it everyday.

I also think... while it's great that your vet here has so much experience - he isn't the one posting here. From what I'm reading... a vet that is telling people NOT to neuter is not doing his job.... but that's a different debate. You using your vets views on certain issues may have a place on the forum somewhere.... but it just it's not the same as hearing from someone who is actually breeding dogs.

the other thing is you mentioned ethics ?

The only thing I see In MY OPINION that is unethical..... is you telling people to not spay/nueter their dogs.

I completely understand. You spend possibly thousands for the perfect one...that you can afford...and you want the possibility to breed...but that's just it. It's possible but not guaranteed.

Your point is well taken and I was not questioning your credibility as I had read the article before. It is as you say your choice about posting the link as I explained later my comments about the length of the post were mostly in response to Villette's post complaining about how long some of mine are. LOL.

I really don't care how long posts are. I will decide whether to read thoroughly or skim depending on how much time I have an how interested I am in the subject matter.

OKAY...there you go again....misquoting me!!

I never told anyone not to spay/neuter their dog!! I would never be so rude as to try to make such a personal decision for someone! It is not my place. I am free, however to express my views on the subject as you are.

My current vet does not belive in neutering or spaying as a matter of course if you are not going to breed. He feels it is irresponsible in fact to alter a dog unless there is a valid reason to do it. He feels that dogs should be "left with all their Parts" unless there is a good reason (not just human convenience) for removing any parts. Surgery is risky and painful and I will seriously consider not neutering my next male. I have decided at this point that, unless a valid reason arises that makes it in their best interest, I will not spay my females although they will never be bred.

None of those quotes is me telling people not to spay/neuter their dog!! That was my point and my protest over you misquoting me.

Give people some credit please.....some think it is irresponsible not to alter if you are not going to breed, I think it is irresponsible to alter as a matter of course....people are free to decide which is right for them and their dog...after all.. it is still a free country...(despite the current administration's efforts to make it otherwise)

Kimberly...no,no, no...I should have used the word "one of a group of males". these boys can be just awful, they are so macho with each other, peeing is their hobby...those can be the worst. If I could pick a stud it would be one like you have...believe me!!!
