Is this labor? Please reply Hi LAcey's temp this morning was 98.9 at 8:40. I just retook it at 11:15 and it is now 98.3. I did not take it yesturday because according to my vet she is only about 53 days, but this morning I just thought I should. I felt contractions like we get when pregnant. last night she went into the cat tree for a little while and when I took her out to go potty last night and this morning I had to pick her up to get her to come inside. She ate all of her breakfast and had a normal stool this morning. No digging not relly restless and does not appear to be over uncomfortable. No milk leaking. What should I look for or do at this point? Thanks |
It has been 63 days since the day the shelter pulled her off the streets. So I guess she could possibly be between 53 and 63 days. I really wished i knew. X-rays said about 53 but I ma not sure how much experience this vet has with reading a new digital x-ray. |

Make sure you are not taking the temp of her stool. Temps can swing. I would watch her tonight close, just in case. |

She was eiether bred before they picked her up or shortly there after but it would haave been in their care so I would like to think that they took some precautions and kept her separated from the others. I have no idea what type of dog she was bred to but in the x-rays on Monday the vet said they were 3 small puppies possibly 1-2 more. Yes she does have discahrge not tons but there is some there. |

Sammie had a temperature drop 24 hours before labor started. It dropped and stayed dropped the entire time. I'm not sure if it helps, but I would probably sleep near her or have a baby monitor on so that you can hear if she starts nesting and panting. |
I took Kalina's temp on Saturday afternoon and it was 98.3. She had the puppies at 9:30 the next morning. She wasn't restless or nesting; no discharge; no milk leakage. In fact, she still doesn't have hardly any signs of milk but the puppies are almost 4 weeks old and VERY FAT, so she obviously has milk and it's good stuff!! Hope the whelp goes well for you. :) |

Kalina's temp stayed down. Her puppies were premature, but they are doing great now. |
Nothing yet.:( Last night though it sounded as if she were going to throw up but nothinghappened. This morning her temp is back up to 99.6. I guess it was a false alarm. :animal36 Thanks for all the support and feedback:D |
OMG  She is eatting like there is no tomorrow!!!! She looks like she is going to pop any moment!!!!!!! |
Ellie ate until 15 minutes before pushing started. I didn't do the temp with her because she was constantly up and down. |
I thought this might be a nervous eatting because she has not done this before. The other think I have noticed is she is peeing alot and As far as being restless she is a very mellow and calm dog but she is wandering about the house very calmly of course. |
The major sign that I noticed for my girls was that they would get lazy the day before. They would just lay around, not play, and didn't really do much at all except want to be right beside me or in their whelping box. Then around 12 - 24 hours later, we had puppies. |
That is what she did yesturday. She was very lazy. My husband even noticed and he never notices anything. Did you say your girl was a shiz zue? LAcey is a shizy poo. She has no signs of milk either but her nipples have grown over night. I guess I just have to wait and see. I feel at such a disadvantage and very overprotective not knowing the dates or the what the dad is. ( I hope you red earlier posts I am not the irresponsible one) |

Sammie, the mother that had the c-section on Monday, is my Shih-tzu. Even she got lazy when it was time. I bet you'll have puppies sometime tonight or tomorrow from sounds of things. |
I bet she is not going to give me any signs until it happens. |

OMG:eek: this afternoon I had to leave Lacey for a while and since she has no signs of lablor I felt ok about it so I locked her in my bathroom with a baby gate. She has her box and bed , food and water. My husband came home before me and she apparently climbed over the gate. I checked her she is fine puppies are still movin about and temp is stable. I just can't believe she was able to accomplish this. |

You would be surprised at what the adrenilin rush lets them do. I had one go in labor and I picked her to put over the baby gate while I rushed to set everything up 9it was a surprise), looked around and there she was in the kitchen. Picked her up and put her in the whelping box inside the x-pen, looked around and there she was in the kitchen again. i finally had to hold her on my lap while she was in labor to keep her from killing herself. |
signs of milk! does that mean anything? Lacey temp was 98.3 at 3:00 this morning and again at 8:00 (98.1) and 11:30 (98.2). I just was able to gently squeeze milk out. Yesturday I saw and felt a lot of contractions and she was ubcomfortable. She ate breakfast and still seems pretty calm. Could this be a sign that she could go into labor soon? |

I re-took her temp at 3:46 and it was 98.5 so it went up slightly. Is it suppose to stay the same or can it vary? She is underfoot constantly and is laying around a lot. When I take her outside she goes potty several times and the will lay down and not want to get up. When I go to get her she will run from me. But I have not seen any panting or digging. What do you think? |
