| We want to breed our male if he is not to old. Hello everyone, This is our first post. My wife Linda and I would like to breed our male yorkie with a small female if he is not to old. Cookie is 8 years old and he has been a wonderful pet for us. He usually weighs 4 pounds but our grandkids moved in with us and he has been finding dropped food and now weighs 5 pounds and he is a little chubby We would like one of his puppies if he succeeds in the process. How do we find someone in our area that might use him as a stud? We live in the east valley of Phoenix. |

Most breeders have their own studs, so finding a female for your boy may a bit difficult. Other things to consider if you do. Is he a good speciman of the breed, have you had all the necessary tests performed....eyes, ears checked, heart, hips, knees x-rayed, bile acid tests, STD tests and temperament tests? Is he AKC registered. Are you prepared to assist the owner of the female with the whelping process? Are you prepared to take any puppies the owner of the female can't place. Are you prepared to take puppies back if the owners of the puppies require the pups be rehomed. Have you been researching contracts.....Just a few things to look into.

| You're going to want to seriously think about whether you really want your "pet" to be a "stud". We did that with our toy poodle a long time ago. He was never quite the same afterwards. They say that the dog's personality can change..... his didn't BUT he was a marking fool after that. Ruined our carpets! That is one of the main things you're going to want to think about. I don't know anything about the recommended age of a stud but breeders on here are also going to ask if you've had all the necessary testing done on him. Good luck with your decision!
