| AKC Standards? Ok so my research on the AKC and YTCA state that the basic standards of yorkies is a blue and gold coat, with the dog weighing between 4-7lbs. So my question is why does AKC register dogs with the black and tan coats, and not certify the weight of all the dogs registered? I understand that there are far too many dogs to check but why register dogs that don't confirm to the standard?

There is no perfect dog: The standard is there as a guideline for what a breeder is striving for. The standard is primarily used for show dogs. Remember litters are registered as very young pups and most are born black with tan markings.....and a yorkie does not reach maturity until approximately 2 years of age.....

| it would be impossible to register a yorkie puppy according to standards. Color and size changes for about two or three years. |
