| Tail Docking - Take Mom or Leave Her Home? Do you guys take your moms in with the puppies or leave them at home? I've got a 30 minute drive and the vet's office requested that I leave the mother at home. Their reasoning was that it upset the mother. Just wanted to see what you guys do. |

| I took Kalina and had my husband take her outside for a walk during the docking. She would have been too agitated if I left her home and walked out the door with her puppies.

| I agree with your vet. Leave the momma at home. She might be a little stressed, but even if she's taken out for a walk, she'll still be stressed and you run the risk of her picking up some illness that's around the vet's office.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I now do my own but I ALWAYS took the mom. I feel it would upset her way more to have the babies taken from her. I never took her in, her and I just waited in the car |

| In the past at a different vet I've always just taken the mom and kept her in the carrier, once they took the puppies back and the mom freaked a little, but once we just took them out one at a time and the vet did them and I put them back in. That actually seemed to work best for me. I'm going to try to take them by themselves and see if mom freaks out or not, if she is going to be upset I'm just going to take her. If the vet has a problem with it I'll find a new one. |

| Back before I did my own tail docking I always took the momma with me. I had a small portable bassinet that I carried momma and babies in. Of course my mommas were use to traveling so they were calm when we were in the car. I just held momma while the vet was doing the docking. Either way it is stressful on the momma so that is why I prefer doing them myself. |

| When I took mine to get theirs done, I took the mamma too. I just held her while the vet did his work. It's a good thing that I did too because he took over an hour even though we had an appointment. I drive about 20 minutes to my vet.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | I've taken the mama with me both times I had litters. Neither one of them seemed to bothered by it and I think would have been much more upset had they been left at home with no babies.

| I always take my mommas, I take in the pups tell my vet how long I want the tails and we go to the store I get a coffee and get her a treat of some kind when we get back they are all done. I would NEVER take just the pups and leave momma home. |

| We are back I ended up leaving the mom at home because she didn't freak out. I think it was harder on the puppies though, they cried all the way back and now that they are with mom they are quiet. I think they would have settled down faster if mom would have been there. Next time I'm going to take the mom like I usually do. Thanks for all the advice! |

| I take the mom with us, right back on the same table where he's doing the tails. We pull the puppies out one by one and when finished put them immediately back in the carrier with the mother and the settle right down.
