if you have a thirty minute drive each way and then your time at the vet, that is a long time for the babies as young as they are to be away from mama. i would take mama and leave her in the carrier. what you said you said you had done before sounds good to me. I always take an extra car key when I have my dogs in the car. That way, in hot or cold weather, I can still leave the car running and lock it to keep someone from opening the door and taking them.
