Blood test How many do blood work to see if your gal is expecting? If so how accurate are the results? Does anyone take their gal in for palpation to see if they can feel any? This is my third litter but the first for this female, she is a little larger than lola the one that I had two litters. So I cant feel anything myself although I am not as experenced. My breeder sais dont waste my money on test that I will know soon enough but it is hard for me to wait. She sais that most show breeders get ultrasounds because they want to know what they are expecting. I see that ultrasounds cant 100% see all of the pups anyway, she would be 5 weeks from the first breeding. WHat do you all think? Thanks

I agree that you need to just save your money and wait. I have read that the blood test is not always accurate and it is not cheap. I have also heard that the best time to have the vet palpate the female is at 28 days. Much beyond that it is hard to tell. Personally I would never take a bitch to the vet at 28 days for palpation or blood tests because that is a critical time of their pregnancy and taking her out and getting her stressed could effect the unborn pups.

I never get a blood test, but do get an ultrasound. My Vet does the ultrasound no earlier than 45 days. At about 5 weeks you should be able to tell if she if pregnant or not. Good Luck!!

My vet doesn't even offer the blood test. I did take my Zoe in for an ultrasound around 30 but I agree with everyone, if I had waited just a few more days, I would've saved the money as it became very apparent very quickly. Next time I plan to just be patient and just do an xray later on. At least that's what I'm going to try to do - I am a bit like a kid at Christmas with this all!

Being patient is a very hard thing to do even more when you are a stay at home mom. She is a bigger gal and I heard it takes longer to tell. SHe is 5 weeks and I cant tell at this point. I feel for golfballs and feel nothing. But I guess I will play the waiting game I am not the only impatient one out there, hehe

| My vet says the blood test is accurate at 32 days - but by then you can usually tell just by looking anyway, so why bother? I'd just wait and do an x-ray at 8 weeks to see how many puppies there are - by then you know for sure what's going on.
