thanks for the information. I do have some trimmers and I will try to trim her without stressing her out. I do beleive her stomach has dropped this morning because she is now carrying very low. I will post some pics after I trim her stomach so that I can be sure. She is now wobbling and cant make it up and down the steps. I live in a split foyer house so there is only five steps to get upstairs and five steps to get into the basement. She use to go up and down but know it's a struggle for her. Is that normal? She can also no longer jump on my bed.

Oh yes, that is very normal. And at this point, I don't think you want her jumping on or off anything. My girl is barely pregnant (still wondering in fact) & I already freak out when I see her jumping on and off furniture.

i try to keep her from jumping but as soon as she hear dogs barking in the neighborhood or the doorbell she jumps up and start barking. Today she has been laying around sleeping and licking herself a lot. She is licking herself so much that she is leaving a huge wet spot on her bed. Is that normal for her to be licking that much? I do see lots of moving in her stomach which is funny because yesterday the movements was very faint. i see the most moving closer to her vulva. are the puppies suppose to be that low this fast. I heard at least two heartbeats in that area today that was very clear. I am kinda concerned because the previous owners stated that they did in fact tie on May 11th which should put her at around 53 to 54 days which means that she may be due around the 14th of july. She goes for an xray in a couple of days so I guess I would get a more accurate picture of things however she is not acting herself. She is still digging under my bed and going from room to room almost like she is pacing. I have tried to take her temp but I had no success not even with her Pet-temp theromometer that goes into the ear. Is this behavior normal? She did eat a little of her food around 7am. I am posting more pictures of her stomach and maybe they can be compared to the previous ones posted to insure me that her stomach did indeed dropp

bjh 07-05-2009 07:45 AM

It is very normal for her to lick her self a lot. She is just doing it to keep herself clean and in anticipation of the upcoming puppies. It does look like the pups might have dropped but I can't say for sure. It is common to feel movement low near the vulva once the pups have dropped. I just wonder if she could have bred before May 11. Did you ask if she was left unattended with the male during her heat cycle? Most don't like having their temperature taken but I hold them firmly and I don't have much problem taking the temperature.

luckylady 07-05-2009 08:08 AM

Comparing your newest pictures with the pictures you posted before, I can sure see a difference, looking like the puppies are indeed moving down. Everything you've said that she is doing sounds completely normal for a female at this stage of pregnancy, going by a pregnancy chart I have.
I am anxious to hear what the xray shows. When will it be done? Be sure to let us know how many pups she is expecting when you get the news.

chattiesmom 07-05-2009 08:54 AM

Congratulations on your upcoming litter. How exciting. Both mom and dad are cutie pies. I will be watching for updates.

yorkiemomma812 07-05-2009 08:55 AM

The xray was suppose to be done on Wednesday but I got a voic mail from the vet assistant saying that no appointments was suppose to been made for next week becaue the vet is on vacation. I don't know what to do with her being so far along and me not knowing how many puppies she will have. the vet assistant seem to think that she will be fine until the following Monday which is the the 13th of July because it's her first litter but she is extremely big. I hope she holds out

this is so exciting. Emma is 57 days today and she has really started licking more her temp today has been a steady 98.5 so maybe it won't be to much longer and maybe ours will have their puppies at the same time that would be so cool. I am attaching pics so you can see how her belly looks.

yorkiemomma812 07-05-2009 02:12 PM

OMG!!!!! She is so beautiful. Maybe we will have them about the same time. how do you get her to let you take temp because it's so so hard for me. I really need to start taking it

yorkiemomma812 07-05-2009 02:29 PM

Thank you so much. She is really trusting she doesn't care what I do to her she just sits there and takes it.

yorkiemomma812 07-06-2009 03:04 AM

Good morning!!!! Heav'ne temp this morning was 98.1 does that mean she is near? I kinda scared because she is only 56 days as of today.

Princessangela3 07-06-2009 05:14 AM

When Bella whelped last week I was anxiously awaiting just as you are. I kept wondering does this mean she is close? When she started I had no doubt that it was time. Somehow instincts take over and I knew it was time. Her behavior was completely different. She always wanted to be with me but when the time came she literally would not leave, kept trying to hide under my arm or behind my back. She NEVER wanted in her whelping box but she started taking her Ducky (favorite toy) inside and she turned her nose to ANY food.
I hope your girl goes a bit longer before having the pups. Good Luck it can be an amazing experience:animal36

yorkiemomma812 07-06-2009 09:24 AM

She has started eating a little but she keeps hiding under my bed. She also keeps licking hereself a lot.

She just might have them under your bed. Have you tried encouraging her to stay in her whelping area?

yorkiemomma812 07-06-2009 09:54 AM

I have moved her to the extra room in my house with nothing in it. I set her whelping bed up in there as well. I did get an appointment for a xray on Wednesday at 10:00 am, which was the earliest I could get since her normal vet is on vacation. I am hoping that she holds out for a least five more days or until I know that the puppies wont be premature. They are sitting low in her stomach and she keeps stretching.

addicted 07-06-2009 09:56 AM

Do u have an xpen so you can enclose her in that area? let's hope she keeps them in a little longer, but I think she is getting very close.

yorkiemomma812 07-06-2009 02:22 PM

yes I have her in a pen. I just took her temp and it's back up to 99.4 is that a good sign? i want her to hold off at least until she get's her xray on Wednesday morning. I will keep everyone posted as I will be taking her temp in around three hours. Good news is that she is eating good. When does milk come in because she has no milk as off yet? Is that a good sign?

Yes, those are good signs (higher temp & an appetite), though all dogs are different. Mine had pups when her temp was 99-something. I'm glad to see that you have a place for her now.........keep her away from going under anything!
Because I am hoping for a litter in August, I was doing some reading today and I saw somewhere that it said taking the temp was one thing, but this person (or article) said that the female will just plain ol' feel cooler to the touch when she's ready to whelp. I'm guessing they are meaning bare skin, like her belly. Hmmmm, I wonder if that's true or if anyone here has ever noticed it before. I'll have to keep that in mind for myself if/when my time comes.

yorkiemomma812 07-07-2009 04:49 AM

well this morning her temp was 98.0 but her belly was still very warm. However she did eat a huge breakfast this morning. She has been finally staying in her whelping box I guess because I had put in my ipod inside of a ipod pillow and she loves it. When i turned it off she statred barking so I guess it now belongs to her. Xray tomorrow morning.

yorkiemomma812 07-08-2009 08:17 AM

Good morning yorkietalk family. Heav'ne had her xray today and it showed 3 puppies. The vet thinks that she may whelp between today and tomorrow as the puppies are lined up in the birth canal. The xray was amazing. They were lined up three head first in a row. Her milk came in today also. Her temp is back down to 98.1

Mom2TwoYorkies 07-08-2009 08:20 AM

A new puppy watch! Yay!

Hoping for a smooth and safe whelping!

yorkiemomma812 07-08-2009 11:03 AM

temp back up to 98.3

yorkiemomma812 07-08-2009 05:09 PM

does anyone know what can be going on with Heav'ne temp?
6:00 am 98.1
10:00 am 100.6
2:45 pm 98.3
4:45 pm 98.5
9:12 pm 99.0

I'm getting a little scared thinking she might be getting sick. She has a little nasal drip. She keeps licking hereself and licking her stomach is that normal. The pups are very active.

bjh 07-08-2009 05:26 PM

I think you are worrying too much.:) We see this all the times with females the last week of pregnancy, lots of ups and downs. Like I said before, low blood sugar can make the temperature drop. I know this is driving you nuts. After you have done this for years you will learn that when it happens, it happens. Most of the time now I don't bother to take the temperature but maybe twice a day if even that much. It can drive you nuts trying to figure these females out. I know it makes it hard sleeping at night.

yorkiemomma812 07-08-2009 05:31 PM

thanks I will try to get some much needed sleep tonight

Princessangela3 07-08-2009 05:55 PM

Bella had a nasal drip the day she delievered also. We had a night time delivery also and I suggest you get as much sleep as you can. It certainly sounds like you are getting close! Good Luck.
