| How long do they flag for? I would like to know how long the flagging stage will last? My female has been flagging for a week now, how much longer will she do this? Does anyone use the start of flagging to determine fertility (When to breed)? I am not real sure when she went into heat I could be up to five days off, but I bread her on wed, thurs, and Saturday. We was going to do it on Sunday as well but the male did not want anything to do with her but she wanted him,. I would just like to try and use the flagging to see if I may have got her on the right day. Thanks |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | I just finished a breeding between Halle & Toby. Halle started showing signs of flagging about the 8th or 9th day of her cycle, but would not really stand (still) for Toby until about the 12th day. I could tell that Halle's willingness and Toby's eagerness was alot more prominent beginning then. I'd say from beginning to end, flagging of any sort lasted about a week - week and a half. I feel that Halle's fertile time was probably in the 12-15 day period. Seems our girls were close on their cycles; we might both be having a litter of pups come mid to late August. Good luck to you.

| My girls start flagging well before they show signs of anything, swelling, pinkness, etc. and continue until about a week after they are bred. When they are bred (10-14th from initial day of showing color and I've bred on the 16th day) does not determine when they are fertile, ovulation can be at anytime during that week. That's why we breed twice with a day inbetween. She can ovulate a day after she is bred. That's why we count whelping dates from the 58-63rd day.
