| My mother in law just told me a story that scared me. So now I have to ask here. Is it common that a mother dog will kill another litter of puppies (that is not hers)? Mia had her puppies on June 5th. So far no problems with jelousy both females are doing great. But Amber is due June 25th. Due I need to worry about the mothers wanting to kill each others puppies? |

| Here's one thread on YT where that happened. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...er-babies.html Keep your moms in separate areas away from each other and their babies.

| Unfortunatly this is very true. My daughter was just telling me that she learned about this in school. While the female is nursing, she of course cant get pregnant, so males will kill off the babies so that they can procreate. HMMMMM. |

| Keep your mothers and litters in seperate rooms.....no maternity ward visiting. Another thing to remember is that if you have girls ready to whelp with in a few days or weeks of each other, keep them in seperate rooms. Especially when one has gone into labor. The one in labor can bring on premature labor in the other. Just like one girl can bring another one into Heat.

| Yes, it can, does and has happened. Please don't trust baby gates, puppy gates and playpens to keep them apart either...where there's a will there's a way! Please keep your females and their litters seperated at all times...seperate rooms with closed doors is the only way to assure they can't get to each other. It only takes a second for an accident to happen...if Mom needs time out let each one out at a different time. I don't mean to sound paranoid but wasn't there a story on YT a while back about one Mother getting into the playpen of the other Mother and killing her puppies while the breeder had that litter out getting their tails/dew claws done? My Molly wasn't even very tolerant of Murfee once the puppies were delivered so we kept him out of the room for a few weeks until she relaxed a little bit. |

| I have heard not only of mothers killing each other babies but mothers killing thier own babies because either the baby might have had something wrong or mommy was insecure in her sorroundings. Be very careful!

yes, you need to worry and why don't you have those two females separated? you need to have your mama and her babies confined away from the other females or other dogs period. At this point, your mama dog should only be going out of her CONFINED area only to potty. | |
