Sooooo much of this thread is intimidating to some of us who just love our Yorkies. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I still learn something from it. But unsettling to say the least. On to what I want to ask. I'm continuing in this thread because I want to quote part of a post.

"Alot of my puppy buyers have been people that I have met at dog shows. Its nice to get to know someone that actually takes the time to look at a breed before they choose to buy one."

This sentence had me again revisiting AKC, YTCA, and YTCNC. I hate to say I can only see one show in my area for yorkies(not that I don't love to drive my mustang long distances). I would have to call in sick for to go to anyway. Could someone offer some info/imput on other types of show in which I could see Yorkies being shown and actually meet show breeders. I love my Krystal and really want a playmate for her. I want her to be happy, especially when I'm not around. I would like to see what other avenue I can go down to buy a wonderful example of the yorkshire terrier and to keep learning about my baby(she'll aways be my baby;)). If someone wants to lead me to another post or PM me with information on where to go I would appreciate it.

As I've said in another post. I hope that the breeders that are members here don't stop visiting and offering their expertise because of "tense" and "upsetting" posts. There are some of us not trying to offend, but just learn. I also think that some need to learn how to be more polite in the way they express themselves. (I would have said PC but I really hate that concept:()

My vet has recommended me and my dogs to many people also. Maybe ask a few vets in town or call your local kennel club to find good breeders. Every state has kennel clubs. Go to infodog.com. I just mentioned the dog show because its more relaxing for me to meet someone there than for the first time at home.Just by interacting at a show tells me alot about the person and the home my baby may go to.

Just my out look on this whole topic so don't bother to flame me because you don't like what I'm going to say.
Like Ruth and so many others I don't allow anyone into my home that I don't know. I don't tell people that I have puppies available anymore because of how Peta and H$ are trying to make us all out to be these horrable people that don't care about out pets whether they be dogs, cats or horses. It doesn't matter to them, their goal is to make owning a pet illegal for any reason. H$ doesn't give two hoots in haidies what kind of facility animals are kept in. I could be someplace that has 24/7 on hands care givers and each animal having its own persoanal servant and they would still find a way to make it sould like the dogs are being abused. Why??? just so they can line thier pockets, do a google search of how much of the money donated to H$ is actually used to care for animals who are really being mistreated and abused, it's a joke.
Another thing some people don't realise is that H$ is NOT part of your local Humane Society nor do they have anything to do with them in general. So do I have any faith in H$??? H$@L NO...
I don't allow strangers into my home for several reasons and never until I feel totally comfortable with them after much questioning and alot of reference checks. I also encourage them to contact the references that I give them on myself as well as my vet.
If someone where to call in regards to one of my babies and ask the questions the OP asked regarding records kept etc... they would be asked why they need to know what my records contain and then told that it was none of thier business, WHICH IT ISN"T.
After I feel comfortable with the person I do allow a home visit to get to know the puppy and see the parents but, are they allowed free roam of my home? NO A CHANCE
Also once they are at my home they must take their shoes off at the door, are given a pair of pull overs like the surgeons use at hospitals and then made to wash any and all bare body parts with my disinfectant.
I have several friends who have been severly beaten after someone has been to thier home to see thier puppies and then they returned only to harm and steal. So yes I am overly careful about not only who gets a puppy I may occassionally have but about what I go thru before I even think about placing one of my puppies.
To the OP:
I would suggest if you don't feel comfortable with the answers you got then move on until you find a breeder who answers your questions the way you want them answered.
I would however talk to afew reputable breeders and find out what questions are appropiate to ask and what aren't, because some of the questions you ask'd Ruth are way beyond your right to know. JMHO and how I do things at my home.
Also if you go to my website you will see that I don't have it up and running trying to sell my babies but rather so that people can see them and the surroundings they are raised in (which is in my home). So I don't believe you need to have puppies availabe all the time to have a website up. I haven't updated my site in some time now but I will be soon. And you will not find any puppies for sale...

:thumbup: so very true and so scary for the future of all of the breeds.:(

HSUS has on their website their politcal agenda and have sponsored bills in 22 states this year alone aimed at severely resricting the hobby breeder and once enacted, aim to tighten the noose until there is no more breeding.
HSUS is simply a vast political machine. They do not truly give two hoots in hell for animals. Read up on the La District Attorney trying to make them account for monies donated for animal rescue after Katrina. The executives at HSUS make enormous salaries and the rest goes for lobbying efforts for their anti breeding bills.
You need to do your homework and realize who the enemy really is and what is actually being done with your donations. If they have their way, pretty soon only the commercial breeders will be left. no more show dogs or Champion sired pets, home born and raised puppies and the next agenda after that is no pets at all. Where are your grandchildren going to get a dog from after we are legislated out of existence. Instead of policing the list looking for some drama to jump on, turn your considerable energy to fighting these onerous laws. FYI, I started out in rescue before I ever got my first show dog and still participate in rescue to this day. My energy, my heart, and my money is in my dogs. If I sound angry, then by now I am. As someone else said quite eloquently, if you do not like what you find at one breeder, move on. If I were to make judgements based on some of the posts on this thread, believe me, I would have quite a lot to say.

I have experience in selecting a breeder, and much of the advice I took was from the people I considered good breeders, right here on Yorkietalk. You have to read lots of threads to do this; I don't think there is just one thread that gives enough information. Now I share that advice with others, I don't see why I should be criticized or called clueless over and over, for doing that.

Do you have to be a doctor, to inform others on how to select a good one?

 I agree! You always give good advice on selecting a good breeder and you have helped ALOT of people on here.

Ok! Where in California is Vacaville. I do know that there is a show in Ventura on the weekend of 3rd on the beach, and another coming up in Carmel. I know that there is a big show in August in Santa Barbara. There is a Yorkie Specialty in the bay area and I think that is in October. Got to infodog.com, that is if you haven't already, it'll give you an explanded search.

[quote=sugar's mom;2680467]oh and another thought. If hsus ever shows up at my door they will look down the long barrel of a shotgun and they will come back with a warrant if they expect to get into my house. I don't have anything to hide but those people and peta are not welcome on my property or near my dogs.

This is a good post. If i were twenty years younger, i would be one of those with an outside kennel. I have dreams of how i would like it and it would cost about fifty thousand dollars. I would like puppy rooms, sire rooms, bitch rooms, viewing rooms, grooming room, bath room large rockers a microwave and fridge for me with a coffee pot for those long nights i would spend in my whelping room. Concrete flooring, large runs for them and the list goes on. I have a farm but am just too old and i plan to stop breeding when i hit 65. I might show some then but i am done breeding.[/quote

You go girl!!! And I hear ya about the "if I were 20 years younger"!!

Just read this post and would like to say I know Ruth personally and even helped her name her Kennel. I have roomed w/ her at dog shows in the past and have found her to be a very considerate of her dogs... She is a staunch believer in breeding the healthiest of dogs... I don't blame her for not wanting ppl at her home as I have had a friend that was robbed and I posted the whole story on here years ago... I don't care if people buy puppies from me or not, they are not coming to my home either... Ruth has also been very helpful whenever she could to other breeders that needed advise with puppies... She also stands behind her breeding with a great warranty...

This is a follow up to the info Mary/Mardelin gave to you. :)

If you are in Vacaville there are actually a lot of shows near you. Granted you might need to drive an hour or so like the rest of us but consider yourself in show mecca. There have been at least 10 days of shows at Vallejo this year and shows in Sacramento. There is even a show in Dixon which is right up HWY80 coming up on 8/1 and 8/2.

If you ever have questions about shows in NorCal feel free to PM me...I am usually there with at least one of my 4-legged gang in tow :)

I think that this is a good answer to your original question, along with the other YT'ers that actually know Ruth of MsChif yorkies. It sounds like the people that have delt with her have only good things to say. This is the type of breeder that I would hope to get a puppy from.

When I went to pick up my Rocky from his breeder, there was quite a bit of corresponding that went on before she agreed to let me come and see him. I didn't get the address from her until the morning of our visit. And no dog was going to be sold to me for sure. Her letting me purchase him depended on how our visit went.:) But these cautions made me more confident in her as a responible and ethical breeder. Don't count somone out because their main concern is the welfare of their animals and not how many puppies they can sell. You can pretty much tell which breeders are all about the puppies (selling them) and which are all about their dogs. Ruth has already stated that she would let someone that she felt very comfortable with come to see her home.

I also see that people are making a point about seeing the home to make sure all is what it seems. This is good advice, but if you can get good refrences and earn the breeders trust I think that it is worth the extra time and effort so that you end up with a healthy, well bred yorkie in the end. It is after all about a 15 year commitment:)JMO;)
