| hard lump after whelp? I was just checking out Honey's teats tonight to make sure all is well and found a hard lump on one side about an inch long between her vagina and last teat. It doesn't seem sore to her when I push on it. The skin is not red. The teat above the area seems normal. I will have her to the vet in the morning but tonight I am not sure if it is safe for the puppies to nurse incase it is an infection. I am getting ready to take her temp but she seems otherwise normal. Anyone on tonight that can help me with this tonight? Kim

| I noticed this morning that my lil Zoey has the same thing. Lil man is 4 days old. He goes today to have his tail docked, and the vet said she would take a look @ mom too. What could it be?

| It is very common for this to happen to nursing females after giving birth. This is caused by a blocked milk duct or an engorged teat and it can lead to mastitis. Some people use cabbage compresses to relieve the swelling and I have heard they work but I always just give my girls amoxicillin and the swelling will be gone by the next day. Most likely your vet will give you an antibiotic for your momma. This is what someone else wrote about using the cabbage leaves: Quote:

| I really don't know other than what he told me. I should have taken a pic of the pad in thier bed so you could see the amount of blood, it was a lot.
