7 wk pup with strange stuffy nose Hi guys, I had a litter of 2 pups. The boy has had a stuffy nose for about 1 month. I have had him on amoxi drops and clavamox and it's still stuffy. At first it was clear then cloudy and I put him on the rx's. Now it's just stuffed and really doesn't run at all. He never coughs or sneezes or rubs his face, and no eye problems. It's never been in his lungs. He really doesn't have a hard time breathing, he just snuffs like he's trying to blow something out, or it's clogged. I don't get it or where to go from here. Once in awhile his mouth seems a bit more wet than normal. I don't want him on antibotics if it's not a infection and have already had him on 2 of them at such a young age. No cleft palate. Any ideas?

| How about a trip to the vet? Maybe they can use the tiny scope to see if there is some sort of physical obstruction?

Is it possible he could have a very small hole in the back of his palate that you are unable to see? Would it be safe to use a saline solution in his nose? You might ask the vet about that. Here is another website that discusses a similar problem. Difficulty breathing - JustAnswer I hope the little guy gets better soon.

Thanks for the links. That might be it as it's mostly clogged on the one side. The U of M has a scope and I'm going to get more info. They wouldn't talk to me on the phone but want my vet to call and discuss it. take care and thanks again.

Hi, he's still snuffin along. He's happy and plays and it bothers me more than him I think. I am going to do a culture and see if the Rx's I had him on were the right ones. I am also going to rinse with the saline to see if that helps. My vet has called the U of M and we are waiting to see what all is involved with the scope. His nose is so tiny and he is young so I might have to wait till he's a bit older. I hate to put him under at such a young age. Thanks for asking about him.

I wouldn't imagine he has a cleft if he's this old, and you have only had congestion. If he did, trust me, you'd know it. But if he has an unusually small nose or nasal passage, even the tiniest bit of congestion could clog him up. Does he snore? I'm just wondering if he breathes through his nose at all.
