Tami, You are right about us being able to advertise. What the code of ethics and conduct says we are not to use our affiliation with YTCA to promote the selling of puppies. However, because of our code of Ethics and Conduct most of us do not advertise at all, but that's by choice. But, then we do have the YTCA Breeder Referral page and believe me it's becoming more and more difficult to become a member and to be listed on the referral page. Not only our homes and breeding programs investigated, but various medical testing will become a requirement, where now it's just something you do as a reputable breeder.

Wow, Donna I did not know that you had started this thread until this morning and read it all.

Donna, Mary, Lorriane, and a few others are very knowledgeable and know the standard and have years of experience in our breed to help others as well as the breed. It does get very frustrating to them and myself.

I have learned that people are going to do what they want to do, whether it is right or wrong. We do not live in a world anymore like the past. I find it harder to trust people nowadays.

Yes, there are people who do want to better themself and try to learn. This is the reason why people like Donna, Mary, Lorraine have stayed and have tried to help their breed standard. But somedays - it is very difficult for them.

Yes, the Internet is easy and quick, but please remember that emails are very easy to mis-interpret and posts get mis-judged.

I know Donna is very sincere and does truly care about yorkies/breed, reason she has continued to post. I have thought to myself somedays - am I crazy to be typing these keys and hitting the submit reply button?? It will take Donna and others (even the ones that just read) to post and make a difference (for the better)!

LOL Tina! I just had to say how I felt LOL...because sometimes I do feel we are stiffled because of our passion and because we are not hobby breeders but please this is not meant to be disrespectful to YT and their staff. I have found most of YT staff to be very nice.

Well said, I love to read your comments, we have all learned so much from you, TOPKNOT,BROOKLYNN, MARDELIN, I hope you will continue to post and teach your valuable information about Breeding, Genetic Testing, not only to better the Breed but to prevent discarded dogs. You work hand in hand with the Rescue Groups, MEAGANSMOM and all the others that try to educate and rehome these discarded dogs. Please keep teaching, you will always have people thinking they know more, but if you can reach just one person, you have done your job well. When you show please encourage the judges to allow a rescue show as well. Rescue People work hard and deserve to walk the ring. And these poor discarded dogs CAN educate observers. Remember, if you can reach on person, you have done your job...

No problem that was a real treat for me to see my name listed with the other names. I'm in awe of very few people, but I really am in awe of good breeders. I think it's such a complicated thing, it's a science as well as an art, and any mistakes can be heartbreaking. Those that come on Yorkietalk and help others become better breeders have a difficult task because as most of us have learned a sentence phased the wrong way can throw the whole thread apart, and people are just commenting on "how" something was said not what was said, and the true spirit of the message is lost. My love for Joey has extended to the whole breed, and I really wish every pet owner would take a more nurturing attitude to the breed as a whole, and not just their specific pets; I believe that we could all become good breeding advocates. When you feel protective of something you are willing to sacrifice your special interests in the cause of the good of the whole.

I have learned so much from the responsible breeders here. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the YTCA in general after becoming a member of YT. When I got my first yorkie Gracie, there was no YT yet. I started reading yorkie books and tried to be an informed pet buyer. Of course I read that the best way to find your best pet was through the YTCA. I had my list of breeders within driving distance and prepared to begin calling. I was so nervous having read about the rigorous interview process combined with the fact that I had a child in the 3rd grade. I was terrified none of these repected breeders would allow one of their puppies to go to me.

The first I called did talk to me for some time. She had a 3 pound 8 month old female that she thought would be perfect for me. I told her over and over that I had never had a small dog and that was much too small. She spent the whole conversation trying to convince me that this little girl was right for me. Well, I was shocked, it wasn't what I expected at all.

The next one did not have any puppies or upcoming litters but spent the conversation badmouthing the first breeder. "Is she still trying to dump that 3 pounder on someone?". "You don't want to deal with her, trust me".

The 3rd was expecting puppies and offered to put me on her list. Then proceeded to bad mouth the first breeder.

No interviews just bad mouthing and I could have gotten the 3 pound girl and a puppy from the 3rd breeder.

All three of these breeders were on the YTCA member list. I came away from that thinking the YTCA was pretty awful to be honest. It was only after joining YT that I gained respect for YTCA and saw the passion and knowledge that the YTCA members on this forum had. I suppose YT and YTCA are like the real world. There is good and bad but now my impression is that the YTCA is way more good than bad and if I were looking for a puppy I would go right to the YTCA list.

I guess the point of my novella is that I learned this from Yorkie Talk. It is perfectly okay for anyone to not want to donate for whatever reason. There are people here that I don't think I would be friends with irl but I'm not starting a thread to point it out. It's hurtful and pointless. I think any thread on any forum would be locked if it was demeaning to the forum. We aren't in a democracy, this is a privately owned forum. I would hate for people who need information to be too intimidated to post for fear of being viewed as clueless and not capable of owning a dog.

I totally understand the frustration breeders feel and I think we are all fortunate for the knowledge they share. To me that thread had nothing to do with that.

I understand that Featured breeds do have to pay a yearly fee, in addition to being a donating member and Yorkietalk says this about them:

So basically that just means that they have to have been a breeder for a year or have seen two litters being born. They have to offer a 1 year health guarantee, and the guarantee has to be seen in writing on their web sites, but that isn't near enough for me. Just think back about some of the new "breeders" who joined YorkieTalk a year ago, they are now eligible to become "featured breeders. I'm just saying that when I read the" requirements" to become a featured breeder, I was shocked. I had the impression, it meant something much more.

Thanks for clearing that up; I was under the impression that they were not allowed to advertise in such places as newspapers, although certain magazines were allowed. I guess the professionalism of the place they advertise is up to their discretion.

As a YTCA member let me say not always, members are still monitored and we at anytime can be removed from the club for committing an infraction to the club's code of conduct and ethics. There are those that have websites, however, their websites are for sharing the breeders accomplishments in the ring. Do YTCA members advertise, some do, they just are not able to state their affiliation with YTCA to sell those puppies.

Donations are completely optional, members may choose to donate if they would like to. YorkieTalk is free and has always been free for all members to ask questions, get answers, search, post pictures, share videos, and browse. The Featured Breeder program was created because there are breeders on YorkieTalk who requested such a forum and we implemented a few additional rules for members to be a Featured Breeder.

We have always believed in educating the Yorkie public, which is why we have the Yorkie For Sale forums. There are always members (new and old) looking for Yorkies and the For Sale forums serve that public good. There have been many, many Yorkies which have found wonderful homes because of these forums. Besides a few breeders who may not agree with the Yorkie For Sale forums, the overwhelming majority of YorkieTalk members like and appreciate these forums and we will continue to have them here. If you do not like the For Sale forums or the Breeding forum, you may choose to simply ignore posts in those forums.

We are a bit disappointed in the lack of respect that some members have shown towards YorkieTalk in the past few days. No one is forcing anyone to be on here, if you truly do not like this community, you are welcome to not participate and not browse our community. We don't understand why people would continue to visit YT if they do not enjoy it. You are welcome to write your own books on Yorkies, start your own blog, or do things that do not involve YorkieTalk.

Members are free to discuss Yorkie issues and breeding issues. The moderators and administrators of YorkieTalk allow almost all discussion, even controversial ones, unless they involve personal attacks. We respect all of our members and YorkieTalk in no way "stifles" reputable breeders. Members are allowed to disagree with breeders, as there are many breeding issues which are still controversial and ones which there may not be only one answer or one method of breeding. Breeders may also be wrong about what they post. Just because members may not disagree with a breeder, does not mean they are being censored or suppressed.
