| please help..bailee maybe having false pregnancy? let me first say i am 100% positive bailee could not be pregnant,i just know you breeders have alot of experience with what goes on in this um "area." she has been in heat and has stopped bleeding for a lil more than a week now...i noticed recently the area around her nipples was quite swollen but today the area is hard and blackish blue..is this normal?could it be a false pregnancy?i just dont kno much about this and Im quite worried somethings not normal...its not her nipples that are swollen, its like a large lup around each of them...the worst are the two closest to her hind end...if ayone has any insight on this itd be more than welcome..idk if we should go to the vet tommorow or what

| I had a dachshund have false pregnancy twice, even after spaying. First time her nipples swelled (although I don't remember any discoloration) and yes, the area around the nipples swelled a little. She also nested -- this is what I really noticed. She made her a place in my closet and gathered several small toy animals and kept them in the closet. She would not come out and we literally had to bring her out to potty and eat. It would last a couple of weeks and then little by little she would start coming out of the closet for more time. I took her to the vet first time. He said sometimes shots are actually needed to help them. But Kate was not too swollen and we let her work through on her own. I felt like maybe I should have let her had puppies, but I was in no position to be a breeder then. She is still with us at the ripe old age of 16, quite an old gal now.

| It really sounds to me like something a vet should look at. Please let us know what they say. |

| All of my females have had swollen breasts for some time after coming into heat without being bred. Lilly had a very long lasting false pregnancy, about 3 months, maybe a little more, complete with full milk production I just had to wait for it to pass.

| I know what you are saying but this female might still be in heat or just going out of heat if the bleeding just stopped a week ago. The part that worried me was that they were hard and blackish blue. I have never seen that happen right after a heat cycle. Hopefully it is nothing but if they continue to be hard and swollen they might need to be looked at. |

| hey guys, heres an update... the next day i had my aunt(a vet)to take a look and she is thinking it is just a false pegnancy...as fo rthe discoloration, she thinks its just her skin tone...i guess since the area is so swollen its more pronounced? she thinks shes fine tho but i will continue to watch her closely...thanks for being concerned everyone...bailee says thanks too!!

| My Ceci had a false pregancy when her sister (Angel) was pregnant. She tired to nurse Angles babies and her nipples got very hard and swollen. I took her to the vet and he gave her a shot of anitbotics and pills to take for 10 days. |
