Starting Early Ok, Harleys 6 months old and his testicles dropped about a month ago and ever since he's been humping my bf's dogs left and right. Thanks goodness they're all fixed and more than 5 times his size. (bulldogs and boxers) And also thank God they're all very patient w/ him and love him as much as I do! But here's my question, on another thread I mentioned that someone is interested in breeding w/ him but I still think he's too young, from what I've read off YT and from other internet sources. I've also read that some boys start early and others a bit late. Could this be the case? Sry I thought this was a perfect description of Harley's personality-> .. Just had to share! Harley Ryder

The humping thing could just be "dominating" play. All of my little dogs do that...even the females. My husband will yell, "You dog is dominating the cat out in the hallway!" They really funny looking...I've thought of getting little cowboy hats and a bandana because they look like bronco riders! As to the "is he old enough?" question; have your friend bring the female over and keep the Yorkies separate from the larger dogs (or take Harley to her house). Then see if it happens.

Be prepared to lose the sweet, loving little guy if you decide to use him as a stud. He probably will become a stud dog who marks his territory and will be extremely difficult to train or re-train.. Has the female's owner ever bred before? Have you? Do y'all know how to judge if the dogs are breeding quality? What genetics are in their backgrounds? Any testing for PSS, knees and hips been done? Is the female's owner a good friend, acquaintance or family member? How trustworthy is the person who wants to se your male? There are a bezillion things to research before 2 dogs are put toether to make puppies? I do not intend to be mean but I am so passionate about breeding and the fact that you are resposible for any puppies you produce for the rest of your lives..Both you and the other owner are doind research now; how long will it be before he bitch goes into heat? YorkieRose will be back on in a few days and she will have more info too. Also, Stacy (Sylvan)

You're def not being harsh. If I didn't expect criticism and tips and a good push in the right directions then firstly I would never of asked and secondly I would be an irresponsible dog owner, lover and maybe one day breeder. I'm definately going to go through the whole run of the mill pre-puppy-hood checking, testing and preparing bit and I totally appriciate any information I can get from experienced breeders. Because who else knows better? I've read many of your comments/threads Whispersmom2 and it's obvious that you're a professional and most importantly someone who truly cares about the breed and what's best for it all over. So I take all of your reponses very seriously. Thank you for your time and comments! <3 LeeAnn & Harley

Oh yea! I know I wondered about the whole being dominant issue. He only humps my bf's dogs which is odd to me bc we have four running around our house that he's never even attempted. Will has one unfixed bitch (bulldog) who was in heat and is preg right now w/ a litter and it's she that he started on(before the boxers). He really likes her "scent" I guess! lol. My vet explained to me that when they are "in the mood" there are two little bulges that swell on the base of his penis on opposite sides and every time he humps Will's dogs he gets very swollen. He's also recently tried taking advantage of my bestfriends s**tzu bitch but thank God we caught him in time. She was his first "little adventure" and it's very likely that she might have been in heat so I'm not sure.
